This song is beautiful, so full of glorious imagery. Although it is confusing, that this backdrop of such natural beauty (the sound of crickets, bullfrogs, stars, 'swooning' grass, etc) should be contrasted with the feeling that the other person in this relationship has to resort to hiding the man's car keys so he won't just drive off. 'To hotwire and hightail crosses my mind', eh? All is not perfect then. But I think that's good, I much prefer that this song acknowledges that relationships, especially as they age, aren't perfect even if there is still love present (as there is here I think).
A very beautiful, humble, truthful song I think.
*That should say 'Some form of excess'.
