@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
It's our anniversary
I leave it ajar
And go outside
To look at the driveway stars
The crickets are chirping
They stop at my step
I stop my step
And they start up again
It's our anniversary
And the bullfrogs
And everything that can sing
Is singing its mating song
The soil is steaming
Grass is swooning
Guns or fireworks are popping
Down in the town
A woman is running
A man jumps up and down
It's our anniversary
And you've hidden my keys
This is one anniversary
You're spending with me
I slide in the front seat
The driver's side
To hot-wire and hightail crosses my mind
But still in the driveway
Fixed like the stars
I flip on the headlights
And go back inside
The climate's controlled
While the battery dies
Clipping the wings
Of your morning flight
The night will end in
Some form of excess
Pants around ankles
Too weak to fully undress
It's our anniversary
A celebration of
And here's to next year
Maybe you'll join me in my car
We'll drive together
But not too far
We are far from flowers
Cut and dried
So let us thrive, let us thrive, let us thrive
Let us thrive
Just like the weeds
Occur sometimes
I leave it ajar
And go outside
To look at the driveway stars
The crickets are chirping
They stop at my step
I stop my step
And they start up again
It's our anniversary
And the bullfrogs
And everything that can sing
Is singing its mating song
The soil is steaming
Grass is swooning

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
*That should say 'Some form of excess'.
This song is beautiful, so full of glorious imagery. Although it is confusing, that this backdrop of such natural beauty (the sound of crickets, bullfrogs, stars, 'swooning' grass, etc) should be contrasted with the feeling that the other person in this relationship has to resort to hiding the man's car keys so he won't just drive off. 'To hotwire and hightail crosses my mind', eh? All is not perfect then. But I think that's good, I much prefer that this song acknowledges that relationships, especially as they age, aren't perfect even if there is still love present (as there is here I think). A very beautiful, humble, truthful song I think.
Extra verse in between 'Clipping the wings of your morning flight' and the second to last verse:
'The night will end in Some for of excess Pants around ankles Too weak to fully undress'
I always thought it was 'Just like the weeds / we curse sometimes'.
