The reason I believe patriotism is silly is because you are not your country, and your country is not you. Taking credit for the actions of others just because they're your countrymen is not right. It wasn't you who did these things and I don't see why one should feel proud of oneself for something others did, essentially elevating oneself above the rest of the world.
