Well here goes I think this song sounds to me like Some guy didn't treat his wife that well so she ditched out on him. He chased after her but she's gone and now he realizes how much she meant to him.
I think the part about the tower and the princess is about him trying to keep her all cooped up like a trophy wife and the same with the bridle and headstall like he was just a prize stallion to him. Then the start is her taking off, the song is written non chronologically? I'm not so sure about the same fire new passion old flame traded in for a summer fling. anyone wanna help me out on this?
and also i think a couple of the lyrics are wrong up there I think its 'out of spite the lighting strikes him twice' maybe? and also 'and all his magnificence can only keep the mice trapped..'
