well it may not be short, but i think that it is accurate.however, it could also be about a past reletionship, this is another way i see it:
"given one more try i dont know if i would stay"- he may miss her, but maybe he's come to his senses and realized that he doesnt need her, thereby saying "i feel so much better now"

all of this just sums it up: he has regrets of leaving her, and he wont let go of them, and he doesnt think that he will be able to, therefore making it so he is the only one that can truly understand his situation, making him basically on his own to figure it all out. his life was colourful, but after she left, it went grey.
