Grey skies clouding up the things we used to see with wide eyes
Maybe everything was meant to be this way
Will it ever change
But are we stuck here on our own

It's all gone grey
It's all gone grey

I found telling you the truth the hardest thing to get out
I know it wasn't you that made me feel this way
Will it ever change
Or are we stuck here on our own.

And give it one more try
I don't know if I would stay
I feel so much better now
And baby begging me
Will leave you so empty inside
So you shouldn't even try

I know every last regret inside of me is my own
The way I hold them close has made me be this way
I will never change
I know I'm stuck here on my own, on my own

Given one more try
I don't know if I would stay
I feel so much better now
Where did we go wrong
I know you still hold on to me
But it's time that you let go
I gave you things I had
That I could not get back again
But I'm better off alone

It's all gone grey
It's all gone grey
It's all gone grey
It's all gone grey

Uh, this doesn't seem like it has a thing to do with careers and such to me. More like a relationship that crashed and burned.

"Grey skies clouding up the things we used to see with wide eyes" Grey skies = problems and anger two people can't see past, and therefore they can't get along anymore, even though they used to love each other ("we used to see with wide eyes"). "Maybe everything was meant to be this way Will it ever change But are we stuck here on our own" Wondering if they will ever be able to go back to the way things were. "I found telling you the truth the hardest thing to get out" Possibly referring to the actual break-up, the truth being that he no longer wanted to be with her? "I know it wasn't you that made me feel this way Will it ever change Or are we stuck here on our own." Referring to how he believes he is more angry at her than she deserves, and that he's holding an unreasonable grudge. "And give it one more try I don't know if I would stay" He is asked to try to start the relationship again, but he knows he would not be happy that way. "I feel so much better now And baby begging me Will leave you so empty inside So you shouldn't even try" She persists in trying to get him back, but he will not hear of it. "I know every last regret inside of me is my own The way I hold them close has made me be this way" Again referring to his admittedly overblown anger for her, and how it is not her fault that he feels this way. "I will never change I know I'm stuck here on my own, on my own" Referring to being trapped by his own anger, and never being able to move on from it. "Where did we go wrong I know you still hold on to me But it's time that you let go" She still loves him, but he now has a general disdain for her, and it is nothing but an annoyance that she still relies on him. "I gave you things I had That I could not get back again" Possibly time spent helping her with problems? A first kiss? Sex? "But I'm better off alone" He wants to finally be rid of her, because she's grown dependent and he can't get past his anger.

Or maybe I'm missing something.... After all, this way, it is basically the story of my life (I'm the he, though)

Great song, I'm the first to post on it yay!!

Probably one of the more straightforward songs, so i'll justdo a quick analysis :

First off, As black and white, pertains to correct or incorrect, grey is a combination of both, and hence generates uncertainty.

Topic in mind: In my opinion: Uncertain about the band/career

The world, is often refered to as 'it', as is his "carrer"

"Grey skies clouding up the things we used to see with wide eyes Maybe everything was meant to be this way Will it ever change But are we stuck here on our own" Grey skies foreshadow's an uncertain future, one that they used to see with wide eyes, or clearly Maybe everything was meant to be this way - the use of maybe also shows uncertainty, as does the question, "will it ever change, are we stuck here on our own?"

It's all gone grey; his carrer has become uncertain

"I found telling you the truth the hardest thing to get out I know it wasn't you that made me feel this way Will it ever change Or are we stuck here on our own." Telling anyone who he cares about is hard, because he doesnt know his own path, that person never made him feel so lost, and he brings up the question again to emphasize his uncertainty

Give it one more try; his carrer in LA I dont know if i would stay, In LA I feel so much better now, hes gotten away Baby begging me, his carrer, when it was young was a 'baby' and it begs him to stay because its where they got their success Will leave you so empty inside, everything in LA is superficial anwayys, no point in staying; so dont even try to stay

"I know every last regret inside of me is my own The way I hold them close has made me be this way I will never change I know I'm stuck here on my own, on my own"

Everything that hes done, and has come to regret he knows is his own fault, and his concern with it has led him to become unstable for the lack of a better word.

He realises that he will never change, unless he leaves, hence if he stays, he is , "stuck here on his own"

I dont know if i would stay - same as above i feel so much better now - after hes gone away Where did we go wrong?- Why are these emotions evoked I know you still hold on to me - his career still holds on partially to where it started But it's time that you let go- about time he left LA I gave you things i had, that i could not get back again

    • Everything hes done for it, all the time, hardwork, he cant get back, but it still isnt worth stayin

Hence, his carrer is uncertain, and "its all gone grey"...

    arty.

I like how this song is in a minor key. It has that "Breathing" tone to it. But instead of being about his girl, it's about him and his future. In the end, he accpets it, "maybe it was meant to be..."

lol quick analysis? well it may not be short, but i think that it is accurate.however, it could also be about a past reletionship, this is another way i see it: "given one more try i dont know if i would stay"- he may miss her, but maybe he's come to his senses and realized that he doesnt need her, thereby saying "i feel so much better now" "here did we go wrong I know you still hold on to me"- they made a mistake, he let her go, but she wont give him up easily "I gave you things I had That I could not get back again"- love, his heart "but im better off alone"- maybe something he should have realized a long time ago, maybe not with love itself, but maybe with her. And baby begging me Will leave you so empty inside So you shouldn't even try

"I know every last regret inside of me is my own The way I hold them close has made me be this way I will never change I know I'm stuck here on my own, on my own" all of this just sums it up: he has regrets of leaving her, and he wont let go of them, and he doesnt think that he will be able to, therefore making it so he is the only one that can truly understand his situation, making him basically on his own to figure it all out. his life was colourful, but after she left, it went grey.

thats how i see it... feedback? ~Sarah

I agree with Yellowcarded (great name btw, lol). I can see it being more than just about his future. I'm not saying the future thing is wrong or anything, but I just think past relationship is more accurate guess. so yeah. its an awesome song, i cant believe only 6 people commented on it...

I agree with RainShadow about agreeing with Yellowcarded, and saying that her name is cool. And as for you other two, I don't see why you have to be so rude. If you dislike a band, then simply don't buy any of their merchandise. But going onto a website to insult them is not only going too far, it's stupid.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
