I always thought this was about Jesus, but I'm not sure why. It would make more sense to be about Rimbaud. The line "You remember when we were in Africa" points to that. Rimbaud wrote all his poems before he turned 19 and then moved to Africa to become a hunter and slave trader if I'm not mistaken. That's where Jim got the idea to relocate to Africa.

@octopuseyes - excellent point! There's a book by a Rimbaud expert titled 'Rimbaud and Jim Morrison: The Rebel as a Poet (1994, Duke Univ Press). The author had correspondence with Jim about his interest in Rimbaud.
