| Meat Puppets – Up on the Sun Lyrics

This song has such an amazingly special place in my heart. When my mom was in labor, my dad was playing a collection of mix tapes he had made for the occasion and this was the song that was playing when they finally got me out. I think the song is about Curt's daughter, but some of the stuff describes in a pretty poetic way what it'd be like to be standing on the sun if you interprit it that way. |

This song is amazing. When Curt sings the "shuffled em and drew me" part the second time I could swear he was singing "she offered him a doobie". It's pretty obvious that it's about playing cards with a guy you don't really want to be around, at least to me. |

if you listen to the guitar it sounds like a sped up version of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit |

For all of you who are arguing about Kurt's death, it could go either way depending on how you interpret the data and we'll probably never know. Similar to Bobby Fuller's death, the police never looked into it, just called it suicide and moved on. Bu the way I look at it, rock n roll needs tragedy and what better tragedy that mysterious death? |

It's funny to me that a song simply describing what actually happened to Jews at the hands of the nazis is racis. It isn't racist, it's the truth and if the truth offends you go join a fucking cult. |

| Pere Ubu – Final Solution Lyrics

This song dates back I believe to when David Thomas was in Rocket From the Tombs and it shares characteristics thematically with Sonic Reducer, another song from this period that ended up being used by other members of the group when they formed the Dead Boys. It's about being rejected by every one and needing a solution. The last verse I believe is about going to see a concert and wanting to be in a band as far as I can tell. It's my favorite Ubu song. |

The lyrics to this song were actually written by David Thomas of Pere Ubu when he was in the band Rocket From the Tombs with most of the future Dead Boys. Several songs from this band would go on to be played by both the factioning bands in their early years. Interesting note, in either the Pere Ubu song Final Solution(I think) there's a line about a sonic reduction. I believe both of these songs were in the Rocket From the Tombs set list. |

Kurt at least wrote the music and Courtney probably wrote the lyrics but maybe did it in Kurt's style of writing or perhaps he helped her with them. It doesn't really help to start whining about which person is a better writer anyway because that's not helping the discussion progress, it's just getting it caught up in a bitch fight. |

also, when did this song become about masturbating over whether creed or nirvana are better? |

It doesn't really matter what these lyrics say because Kurt just made em up as he went along so its more a stream of conscience thing than an actual thought out set of lyrics. The reason he gave it to Courtney was cause he couldnt think of good lyrics for it. |

| Bob Dylan – One More Cup of Coffee (Valley Below) Lyrics

I think the religious metaphors in the song could make sense. For example, the stars above line has been explained, but also, the line about her dad is an outlaw, jesus was an outlaw during his time and a wanderer preaching his faith which was his "trade" so to speak. And he teaches also. Then their is the line about seeing the future, Christians believe that they know the future or parts of it because of what the bible says.
Then again, I can see the gypsy theory also. Hell, they both might both exist in the song because god knows Bob's got some damn complex lyrics so why not have multiple meanings. |

I don't know what this song mean exactly, but I have to say even though I like Skip SPence's original version better I have to say Beck's cover is totally genius, and if it weren't for this song I never would have heard of Skip SPence to begin with.
As far as what the song means I always felt like it was about following someone you love and hoping they'll notice you and come over to say hi or something. But that's just what I think. |

| Marilyn Manson – Rock 'n' Roll Nigger (Patti Smith cover) Lyrics

In the original liner notes to Patti Smith's album Easter she says this song was written to show how social outcasts make the biggest difference to society or something like that. Manson does a good cover of this song and I think that's because it applies so much to him just like it applied to Patti when she wrote it. |

this is a demo from the spooky kids days

also the cover of Another Brick In the Wall was done by a band called Class of 99 |

| Nirvana – Baba O'Riley (The Who cover) Lyrics
| 19 years ago

I'd just like to say:
first the quality of this recording is so horrible I don't know how you could prefer it to the Who's version because it's barely listenable
second the lyrics are hilarious
third, just because someone doesn't see meaning in lyrics or doesn't think the music is different at all doesn't mean it's true
fourth, the Who are sellouts because they haven't done anything new in years and they should've stopped after Moon died so they wouldn't have all this criticism because if they had stopped at a certain point people would just remember them for all the great songs and albums they put out in the 60s/70s
that is all |

I always thought this was about Jesus, but I'm not sure why. It would make more sense to be about Rimbaud. The line "You remember when we were in Africa" points to that. Rimbaud wrote all his poems before he turned 19 and then moved to Africa to become a hunter and slave trader if I'm not mistaken. That's where Jim got the idea to relocate to Africa. |

The section that goes
" Once I had, a little game
I liked to crawl back into my brain
I think you know the game I mean
I mean the game called 'go insane'
Now you should try this little game
Just close your eyes forget your name
Forget the world forget the people
And we'll erect a different steeple
This little game is fun to do
Just close your eyes no way to lose
And I'm right there I'm going too
Release control we're breaking thru"
is from an early Doors song called Go Insane. |
