This song to me looks like it is about depression. When you are depressed your emotions are all messed up, you really cant explain how you feel. You have negative thoughts and even tho you look for reasons to live, when you find them your mentality will refuse to accept it and just let them slip away. But then the lines "Turn it all around, It melts into sound" lead me to to believe that is possibly Brian Fair singing about being depressed and finding music to be the thing to bring him out of it. Because the second half of the song is optimistic,

And embrace the hope"
