i dont believe its about a girl being shallow at all, in fact i think its quite the opposite, its about how the shallowness of others drove her to hate herself. in the bridge it talks about how she was beautiful, but nobody noticed her because it wasnt physical beauty, and they said she was flawed, and drove her to kill herself. he says that its the others who are flawed, because of their insensitivity.
i also think this song is about how suicide is covered up and forgotten, and how nobody tries to find the reason why she killed herself.
