I think that this song has many meanings; like caring for a person, hoping him/her to call you "just give me a call when you feel better"... but maybe these person does not care that much for you "but you never do".
I love the line of "Freud said that love was a good psychosis, but I don't know I've had to many doses" I think it means that love can heal us sometimes and end with the monotony of our lifes, but he (stephan) is like trying to see it in a way, that he had been hurted many times that he is just sick of it.
The chorus is like saying; "You can count on me, I'll be here for you! But please don't lie to me, don't end with my hopes."
The sweetest line is "I kept your sweater till the scent was gone, wrapped up in my hands when the days were long" is like when you love someone so much and you've got his/her sweater you could smell it for hours, and it comes a time that you had smelled it so much, that there is no scent left to smell.
