Uh...I don't really see it as either of those. From the way Luke writes, he seems to be in a certain state of panic throughout most of this album. While it may be saying religion is wrong, I think it focuses mostly on the suffocating notion that a single person when viewed against hundreds of millions of years of change, most of which can never even be learned about as is. Sort of accepting that life is lived in vain and we're going to die and be forgotten. Pretty hopeless song if you ask me.
