My view of this song is about a relationship between 2 people, not even a male and woman relationship. In fact, it seems to work better as a father/son deal or male/male deal. Anyway, one wants to control the others future and everything he does so he could be like him, but the other one has different goals on his hands and betrays his friend's want and ends up being successful, hence "I watch you shine and burn me"...
