I have a different idea about the meaning of this song.
I think he is actually comparing love or this girl to a drug addiction. So maybe he’s saying when he’s with this girl he gets a sort of high and is happy. Then when he cant be with her he’s in pain and feels like he needs her. I dunno if my theory is right but the line “Is LOVE an infection” makes it seem like it could be right. Also the line “if I cant afford HER my veins begin to ache” adds to that idea.
