Well...I won't say everything it means to me...but I think it goes along with some themes in other Creed songs, in Peace Inside Us All, "why don't we tear down the walls", and in Bullets, "hiding in the shadows", hiding is a pretty negative thing, either to hurt people or to stay away from them.
We do it because we are afraid, or because we want revenge, "human pride sings a vengeful song".
I think we do have to hide somewhat, from brutal people, "wise as serpents, harmless as doves". Not to put your best self out there for any old boor to rip your guts out.
But to always be looking for a chink in the armor, to make a flesh to flesh contact with people.
And to never hide from yourself, "a state of self-denial" he called in, in Pity for a Dime. Never let another man take your soul and forget who you are, that is really hiding from God, like Adam in the garden, to me.
