yea, i first heard this song WAY back in november when i was on a family trip in hawaii. it REALLY surprised me when i heard them on the radio. And i think Edo is right, theyll be fine, they sold out but have reinvented themselves on more than one occassion. They are such a good band with immaculate lyrics I dont think they can be surpassed, even if they do sell out.
Anyway, I heard this song was written about the struggles between Greg and his father. But i think it might have a double meaning. In 'Metal Hammer' a uk punk and metal magazine they had an interview with Greg and Mr. Brett and Mr. Brett said that this song was about the biblical story of 'Job', in this story Satan bet god that there was no man who wouldn't surrender his faith ('Just to settle a bet that could not be won, between a prideful father and his son' from what I understand of Christianity Satan was created by god then cast out of heaven into hell i.e. god is Satan's 'father') but after huge suffering Job still refused to betray his faith and was rewarded by god. To quote Brett: 'The easiest way to summarize 'Sorrow' is that it is very difficult to account for suffering in the world from a theological perspective...My interpretation of the story of Job is that it doesn't matter how good you are , the universe doesn't run on the merit system. In other words its impossible to justify the suffering in the world with the existence of a god. The story of Job is the archetypal sad story. It's the saddest story ever told, it deals with the biggest question: why is there so much sorrow? Why is there so much pain in the world? I wanted to tackle the subject without trivializing it' I hope this is of some help, Barney."
Bad Religion NEVER sold out, liar. They became SLIGHTLY popular for a very SHORT period of time. That DOES NOT MEAN THEY SOLD OUT. Bands like Offspring where 20X more popular than Bad Religion ever was, even at "the peak of Bad Religion" they where still LESS popular than when OffSpring was at their worst. Yeah. Exactly. Look at their record sales and "radio chart numbers". Only a FEW songs in Bad Religions 35 YEAR HISTORY have ever made it to the radio, and even those songs hardly made the top 100 list, and they didn't last on the radio...

So please learn what you are talking about before you make the ignorant comment lying about them"selling out". 90% of all their records where released on EPITAPH RECORDS, which is owned by BAD RELIGION THEMSELVES!!! How can you sell out, when they own themselves? Also Bad Religion signed a 2 other great punk rock bands to Epitaph records: NOFX and PENNYWISE. (they even signed OffSpring, too)
