It was started in the studio during the recording of Crash just by dave and boyd messing around and it turned out the tune was good so they recorded it. Dave wrote the lyrics quick and they have no meaning at all. It is a song meant to confuse people that try to figure out meanings. And that's why it doesn't apear to be deep...because it's not at all. And I do agree this song live is VERY AMAZING!
