I was not put here by anyone in fear
I came alone as me
Just an idea in a long chain of discovery
Surrounded by the same you
Sometimes your tide pulls me out to sea
And I die in a thrashing curse
Sometimes we are kind
More often, I doze
So far up the beach that those who try to reach are burnt alive in the searing heat of the desert of my dispassion
So far removed, I never hear the water
'Cept once or twice a month when I see a mirror
And I refuse to believe in some of the things
that are said to be here
Let alone those that are not
I'm trying to change my direction
Ours is pathetic in my own humble estimation
I love the planet
The great benign she-wolf
Benefactor
Spinning gently on towards the red giant four aeons hence
When all the rose gardens are consumed in the
flash-fire of flying time
She'll leave alone to you
When you look at me
From your own century
I may seem to be
Strange archeology
But when the winds blow
From this direction
You may sense me there
In your reflection
I think I feel you
But I will never know
As the swallows leave
And the children grow
I wanted to live forever
The same is you will too
I wanted to live forever
And everybody knew
When I caught you there
In tomorrows mirror
I thought felt you
Jump out of my skin
Throwing oil into
My blazing memories
Filling empty footsteps
I was standing in
I wanted to live forever
The same as you will too
I wanted to live forever
And everybody knew
As the falling rain
Of the northern jungle
Hanging droplets on the leaves
Bombards my brain
I hear you
Across the room
A sea of daffodils spring into bloom
You are the mist
The frost across my window pane
And again
She moves her body
And her whispers weave
And the world spins
And tells me that I'll never want to leave
As I think of you
From this dark century
I will always be
With generosity
That we both may share
The hope in hearing
That we're not just
Spirits disappearing
I came alone as me
Just an idea in a long chain of discovery
Surrounded by the same you
And I die in a thrashing curse
Sometimes we are kind
More often, I doze

I LOVE THIS SONG! Possibily my fav anathema song, i'm sure it's a cover song though? It's still very fantastic, especially the spoken word introduction at the beggining! The obvious meaning of this sound seems to be about things changing over time but his ideas and principals remaining and he percieves the new ideas of these days which aren't really the time he feels he belongs in.
Mine too! I totally forgot about it and "Flying" became a temporary favourite, but then I remembered after a few months of not listening to it.
Anyway, it seems to me as though he's looking into his future and referring to it as "she"? - I don't know Neat song though
Edited by random_monkey on March 24 2006, at 12:57PM

Danny Cavanagh performs this in acoustic, live with Antimatter and it sounds even better than the album version.
Is sad though I usually find good, more deep and profound analysis to good songs such as this one here! But anyway just to let you know this is a double cover from Roy Harper's album: Whatever Happened to Jugula? Curiously both songs Bad Speech (spoken word part by Harper himself) and Hope (composed by Roy Haper and David Gilmour), are one after the other in Harper's album. I can picture how Cavanagh brothers and company got this one by listening old Harper record, those are like indivisible tracks.
Can someone trip one this extract: Spinning gently on towards the red giant four aeons hence
Late reply, I know, but this is my first time looking up this track on here. Here is my interpretation.

"Spinning gently on towards the red giant four aeons hence" -The red giant refers to the Sun and the Earth is spinning, or revolving, around it from the gravity force it produces. The four aeons refer to the Geologic Time Scale, or the history of earth. (Hadean, Archean, Proterozoic, and the current aeon Phanerozoic.)

"When all the rose gardens are consumed in the flash-fire of flying time" She'll leave alone to you" -I am sure this refers to a super nova when the sun dies and explodes, killing all life on earth. And when it dies it will just be a floating rock. It will no longer glow or give off light, in hence, leaving the rest of the solar system alone.
Just wanted to add that the same tune, written by David Gilmour, was also used by Pete Townshend with different lyrics, in his song "White City Fighting" on his album "White City: A Novel".
