There is a whole mountain
And a river runs through it
If you split my mountain wide
You would find many rivers
Among flocks of non-white doves
And non-temptable mortals
The kingdom is much more real
And the beauty is endless
Only when tightened beyond recall
Is your necklace a blessing
Leave your pearls in the sea
You undeserved bitch
You are not worthy of such a treasure
My hand on your heart, I know there is a beating
In this oh so bleak landscape
There are many mountains
..... but not so much water.
My kingdom
And a river runs through it
If you split my mountain wide
You would find many rivers
And non-temptable mortals
The kingdom is much more real
And the beauty is endless
Is your necklace a blessing
Leave your pearls in the sea
You undeserved bitch
You are not worthy of such a treasure
In this oh so bleak landscape
There are many mountains
..... but not so much water.

In this song, he describes a beautiful kingdom, but with a bleak atmosphere, with many mountains, but no so much water. And a woman dies in this kingdom, hanged by a pearled necklace which she undeservengly took... This song might just be simply about that literal story, but following Anathema's usual early poetic style, I really believe this "kingdom" is a metaphor for his inner self (beautiful, but melancholic, high, but with not much hope) and the death of the woman a metaphor for saying goodbye to someone who's done him wrong ("leave your pearls in the sea, you undeserved beach").
In the inline text for the 'Falling Deeper' album, Danny discusses reworking the lyrics for that album;
“I also enjoyed very much reworking the lyrics written by a natural poet, Darren White. His vision and spiritual essence informed early tracks like Kingdom, and in reworking his words in this simplified version it occured to me that the heart of what he was writing about then and what I'm writing about now are one and the same. The kingdom really is within you.”
