Packin' Lyrics
yesterday morning i went
out for a cup of coffee
i shaved
then i combed my hair
a man who didn't know me
said something to my back
i stopped to turn around and face it
that is why
i pack my .25
where nobody knows
right above my boot
it's the law
no one there to serve you
why not be the hero?
why not be your own?
swear i'll kill you!
swear that i'll kill you
the law--it's the law
every man out on the street knows
swear that i'll kill you
i dreamt all yesterday
how i might make a man feel
with a gun up to his face
he'd show respect to me
i don't care what you're thinking
i'll wipe that thought away
out for a cup of coffee
i shaved
then i combed my hair
a man who didn't know me
said something to my back
i stopped to turn around and face it
i pack my .25
where nobody knows
right above my boot
it's the law
no one there to serve you
why not be the hero?
why not be your own?
swear that i'll kill you
the law--it's the law
every man out on the street knows
swear that i'll kill you
how i might make a man feel
with a gun up to his face
he'd show respect to me
i don't care what you're thinking
i'll wipe that thought away

firstly, its called packin' 25. it is great and it signifies that thing when you look different to supposedly normal people and dickheads whothink they're cool have something stupid and brainless to say about it, twats. and you get so frustrated with them going on at you in the dumarse' hippy' 'gay 'girl' way that you just want to make the fuckers weep and apologise and the like. Ha Ha, oh yeah.
I suspect this song is meant to be ironic. I seriously doubt Perry Farrell has ever carried a gun, though I could be wrong. They're saying that respect earned with the barrel of a gun isn't real respect. It's making fun of "tough guys" who are only tough when they have an overwhelming advantage.
I think it's a little more complex than that... because I'm SURE Farrell has had moments of wishing he did have a gun so he could turn around and make some smart-a$$ whimper. But I think overall point of this song is irony, not a call to arms.
idk...I think he's talking about joining the army...
I'm really glad to hear people think this song is meant ironically - but why do you think that? I know very little about Perry et al, and would kind of like to know more…from the lyrics in other songs "is my girlfriend afraid of me?" I'm not so sure this isn't mostly serious...
