Someone You Should Know Lyrics

Who do you think you are?
You're talking so loud
You bury the sound
Of your heart that's singing out

And where do you want to be?
On top of the world
But you're just a girl
Who forgot what it's like to dream

Leave everything behind
But you're so tired
One day you might open up your eyes and find

[Chorus]
What you've got isn't what you wanted
What you need just happens to be
What you've got isn't what you wanted
What you need just happens to be
Someone you should know

You try to hide between the lines
Of a story never told
But I've seen you run away
You're afraid of the fall
The weight of it all is too much

But you might change your mind
If you'd stand up one day
You might open up your eyes and find

[Chorus]

La da da da... [x5]

How do you keep it up?
It's all just a front
A dangerous stunt
You're gonna come down soon enough

Open up your eyes
Don't be scared
You might find you had it all the time

What you've got is what you wanted
What you need just happens to be
What you tried so hard to hide
It was there between the lines
Of the story never told
Of someone you should know

What you've got is what you wanted
What you need just happens to be
Someone you should know
What you've got is what you wanted
What you need just happens to be
Someone you should know

This song could be about someone who is a lesbian who is struggling with "coming out." "How do you keep it up it is all just a front." You try to hide between the lines of a story never told.

What you need just happens to be someone you should know. Someone is another woman who wants her who she already knows. The other woman could be Lisa and she is singing about a friend.

Do we know if Lisa is straight or gay?

My Interpretation

The "someone you should know" is you.\n\nSometimes we pretend to be someone we aren\'t. Whether it\'s because of outside pressures to fit into a certain mold, or from fear of being criticized and judged.\n\nTo me, the song is about being true to yourself and reconnecting with who you really are. And we should be brave enough to let that person shine.\n\nWe can lose touch of our true selves and forget who we really are. Knowing yourself grants you independence from the opinions of others. In order to be yourself, you must know yourself.

Someone you should know... I think the song is self explanatory. It's just about leaving the person you're with as someone else you already know will make yoy happier :).

I think this song is cautionary tale about looking outside of yourself for happiness. You're talking so loud/You bury the sound/Of your heart that's singing out... The person you need, the person you want to be...is you. You're already there. If you just look at yourself, you'll find you're so much more worthy than you give yourself credit for. That's just my take, of course, but I think the lyrics reflect that. Wonderful song by a wonderful artist.

I think it's about being in love with someone who is so close but so far out of your reach :3
