On & On Lyrics

Oh my my my
I'm feeling high
My moneys gone

The world is turnin'
Oh what a day
What a day whay a day

Peace and blessings manifest with every lesson learn,
If your knowledge were your wealth then it will be well earn

If we were made in his image then call us by our names
Most intellects do not believe in god but they fear us just the same

Oh on and on and on and on
Whew on and on and on and on
I go on and on and on and on
Ohh on and on and on and on

I was born under water with 3 dollars and 6 dimes
Yeah you might laugh 'cause you did not do your math

Na qua 2..3.
Damn, yall feel that? Oh...

The world keeps turning
Oh what a day what a day what a day

The man that knows something knows that he knows nothing at all
Does it seem colder in your summertime and hotter in your fall

If we were made in his image then call us by our names
Most intellects do not believe in god but they fear us just the same

Oh on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
I go on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on

I am feeling kinda hungry 'cause my high is coming down
Don't feed me yours 'cause your food does not endure
I think i need a cup of tea, the world keeps burnin'
Oh what a day, what a day what a day

You rush into destruction 'cause you don't have nothin' left
The mothership can't save you so your ass is goin' get it
If we were made in his image then call us by our names
Most intellects do not believe in god but they fear us just the same

Oh on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
Ooh ooh wee on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on

she's saying that if we're all made in god's image, then we deserve the same respect, so call me by my name, nothing else...most intellects are convinced that god doesn't exist, but the fear of a higher being or some other unknown force like fate scares us all..

This might help

Supreme mathmatics (1) Knowledge is simply the accumulation of facts through observing, learning, and respecting. Knowledge is the foundation of all in existence, for it must be known in order to make it manifest. Knowledge is the light given off by our sun, which is the foundation of our solar system.

(2) Wisdom is wise words being spoken, or to speak knowledge (or a wise dome, meaning a wise mind) and act according to it. Wisdom is water or the vital building block of life. Wisdom is the Original Woman because life is continued through her cipher (womb). It is also a reflection of one's knowledge and is shown and proved by the moon, being a reflection of the sun's light (knowledge). Knowledge plus the reflection of Knowledge equals Wisdom (1 + 1 = 2).

(3) Understanding is what shows and proves the completion of knowledge and wisdom (man, woman, and child). Understanding is a clear mental picture. It is the Original Child, which is the star. The highest form of understanding is love, the bond between man and woman, or Knowledge and Wisdom. Knowledge plus Wisdom equals Understanding (1 + 2 = 3). If you knowledge my wisdom, you will understand what I am talking about.

(4) Culture/Freedom is one’s way of living, meaning one’s language (wisdom) and customs (ways and actions). The Original Man’s culture is Islam: freedom, justice, and equality, which is peace. Free to practice one's own culture, which is Islam. Without conflict.

(5) Power is the force or creative energy. Power is the truth, which is Allah's mathematics. To have knowledge of the Culture of Islam is to have Power.

(6) Equality/Truth/Justice is the state or quality of being equal, meaning to deal equally with all in existence. Equality is achieved by teaching others Knowledge and Wisdom, and making it understood through Understanding. Truth is achieved through the actual and factual Wise words spoken. Justice is accomplished when Equality is applied and Truth is manifested. Their mergence will bring about Justice.

(7) God: Allah is God, the supreme-being Blackman who is the original or origin of all humankind. God is Allah, Lord of All the Worlds, Supreme Ruler of the Universe, which is everything: sun, moon, and stars (God is the sun in the solar system, Man is the sun, Woman is the moon, Child is a star).

(8) Build or Destroy: To build is to elevate the mentality of self and others around the self to add positive energy to every nation. To destroy is to ruin by allowing negativity to outweigh the positive.

(9) Born: to be born is the completion of all in existence, which is to manifest from Knowledge to Born, the law of mathematics—to be complete in itself.

(0) Cipher is the completion of a circle consisting of 360 degrees (120 degrees of Knowledge, 120 degrees of Wisdom, 120 degrees of Understanding), which is a whole. All in existence pertains to a cipher.

she had been explaining this song a lot during her lives and so on. this song is about completion, the cipher, taht can be represented by a circle of 360 degrees. "i was born under water" means she was born in her mother's womb, she was already complete there and born with everything she needed.

@madame in an interview she said water is wisdom (like someone put above as #2) and that what she is saying is that she was born with common sense and an old soul with knowledge of being one with the Universe.

I love this part

"If we were made in His image then call us by our names. Most intellects do not believe in God but they fear us just the same."

I think that means, if we're God's image than we deserve the same respect. And she's saying that even though most intellectual people are atheists, they still tend to treat others with more "God-fearing" respect than most religious people.

in the verse, 'if we were made in His image then call us by our names most intellects do not believe in God but they fear us just the same,' what is she trying to say? is she saying that we are all god?

actually that's exactly what she's saying =).
sweet miss Badu is part of the Nation of the Gods and Earths, which teaches that all men are their own God, and that each woman is an Earth, symbolizing that they are the root of creation, and the planet on which all life is born unto. i'm non religious but it's a pretty beautiful philosophy in my humble opinion. her music is riddled with influences from those teachings.

the bible teaches that we are all made in god's image and when applied to real life it puts all of us (no matter how wealthy, esteemed, respected or upstanding) on the same level. All of us can inherit the kingdom of god and god's love!

@annelansberry Not exactly. It depends on your definition of god. She is saying that there is the divine within us but it isn't the same concept of god that monotheist religions have.

This song is full of 5%er refrences... do some research on it before you inteprit it. You know in high school english class they explain that poetry is easier to understand when you know a thing or two bout the person who wrote it. Song is no different from poetry, if Erykah says some line and maybe Ashanti has the same line, the meaning is totally different between the two artists... I dont know much about "5 percent nation" though, it would be great if someone could help me understand it...

Thank you! All this crap about what it could be (when it's not even close), like addiction. "Five Percenters" refers to members/believers of The Nation of Gods & Earths. Now, to answer your request, & anyone else's that may want Knowledge: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nation_of_Gods_and_Earths

when she says she born with $3.60 she means she was born complete like a circle (360 degrees)

maybe some of the other religion stuff has to do with how we all really dont know, so skeptics and believers alike cant really say they are right.

Cover art for On & On lyrics by Erykah Badu

In the first verses Badu explains: That once the creation (mankind/jinn) gains knowledge and amongst them selves places it at a high value just as man of this society values money. That in it self will cause individuals to retain high ranks and established some type of moral standards in the community of those who established it. This in turn will cause many mercies such as peace, high morals and Intellect. to come about that community.
(Peace And blessings manifest with every lesson learned. if your knowledge was your wealth then it will be well. earned)
