1000 Good Intentions Lyrics

It's all the same thing
Now that it ever was
Except now you've strayed too far
Need you to stop digging your hole
And follow the path we light
Don't need an invitation to be reconciled
'Cause these home fires are burning
Stare into your empty eyes and wonder...

How could something so right turn out so wrong?
You spent your time making excuses
For the ways of life that you are choosing
How could something so right turn out so wrong?
Not sure exactly where I am

The more we organize
We suck out this life that serves as the fuel behind
You want to take the passion in my veins
And put it down in black and white
You've got your foot directly on the gas
I watch you burn out so fast
Now I can see just what you've become

And how could something so right turn out so wrong?
I don't have a backup plan
This is all that I am
And how could something so right turn out so wrong?
Not sure exactly where I am

(One) one thousand (good) intentions
(Lost) translation (lost) forever
(One) one thousand (good) intentions
(Lost) translation (lost) forever
Lost

How could something so right turn out so wrong?
I don't have a backup plan
This is all that I am
And how could something so right turn out so wrong?
Not sure exactly
Where I am
Where I am

This song is definitely political. I think the singer (Tim) represents the Ideas of the founding fathers of the United States as if they have manifested and have been watching the US throughout time.

"Need you to stop digging your hole and follow the path we light". Probably referring to the downward spiral the US is heading down versus the vision the founding fathers had.

"The more we organize we suck out this life, that serves as the fuel behind" I think this refers to our mining of oil which then fuels our wars and pollution.

"You want to take passion in my veins and put it down in black and white" Taking our freedoms (Found Fathers passion) and making laws (Black ink on white paper) that ultimately restrict them.

"How could something so right turn out so wrong" How could a country so great end up going down such a self destructive or violent path. Or something like that.

"One thousand good intentions lost" The US used to do good and honorable things and people didn't always hate us. But all those good things mean nothing anymore due to the destruction and bad we cause around the world.

"Translation Lost" Our constitution and the ideas our founding fathers had, clearly doesn't mean anything in our current time.

I think the rest of the lyrics are self explanitory if you look at the song like I do. I feel I'm pretty accurate. This song hits hard. While there are still opportunities out there the life i was promised growing up sure isn't the life I'm living.

Well thats what i get from this song. What do you guys think?

When I saw them live a few months ago Tim turned the last part into a sing-a-long and it was great. The whole crowd yelled during the backup vocals....the "ONE!" "GOOD!" parts. You know what I'm talking about.

the lyrics sound like they are describing someone who just doesnt get it. their intentions are good, but they are just bad alltogether.

'need you to stop digging your hole
and follow the path we light '

feel me?

most of rise against songs are political and usually refer to the environment or issues were dealing with around the world.

I think your right about what they mean but i think the song was intended to be about a couple. More like the world.

"except now you've strayed too far" we intended to help the planet but now our intentions have strayed.

"you spent your time making excuse for the ways of life that you are choosing"

we keep making excuses like "we need this forest to build fires and to make furniture" we just make...

love rise against and love 1000 good intentions..

I think the song's about a boy and a girl who started good then something crappy happened but he still wants her back..

"I dont have a backup plan this is all that i am"
