Weather Channel Lyrics
Sunday morning
You can't hear it
Sirens warning
There is weather on both sides
And I know its coming
Just like before
There's a black tall man at my door
He's been howling my name, he said
"You Better Get Running"
Can you make it better for me
Can you make me see the light of day
'Cause I got no one
Who will bring me a big umbrella
So I'm watching the weather channel
And waiting for the storm
It's just sugar
Just a pill
To make me happy
Though it may not fix the hinges
At least the door has stopped it's creaking
I've got friends who have been imploring me
To comb out my hair
Come outside and join the human race
But I don't feel so human
Can you make it better for me
Can you make me see the light of day
'Cause I've got labcoats
Who will bring me a panacea
While I'm watching the weather channel
And waiting for the storm
You won't want me
Hanging around a birthday pony
Even though it's just a game
You know we are the same
But you're the better faker
You can't hear it
Sirens warning
There is weather on both sides
And I know its coming
Just like before
There's a black tall man at my door
He's been howling my name, he said
"You Better Get Running"
Can you make it better for me
Can you make me see the light of day
'Cause I got no one
Who will bring me a big umbrella
So I'm watching the weather channel
And waiting for the storm
It's just sugar
Just a pill
Though it may not fix the hinges
At least the door has stopped it's creaking
I've got friends who have been imploring me
To comb out my hair
Come outside and join the human race
But I don't feel so human
Can you make it better for me
Can you make me see the light of day
'Cause I've got labcoats
Who will bring me a panacea
While I'm watching the weather channel
And waiting for the storm
You won't want me
Hanging around a birthday pony
Even though it's just a game
You know we are the same
But you're the better faker

the lyrics are not "There's a black tall man at my door He's been howling my name, he said 'You Better Get Running'"
they are : "there's a black dog that scratches my door, he's been growling my name, saying, 'You better get to running"
"You know we are the same But you're the better faker"
Enough said. Amazing song.
Lots of metaphors some easier to decipher than others.
I think the song is basically about depression. If you can imagine a hurricane and Sheryl is in the eye of the hurricane "there is weather on both sides". Sheryl has suffered from depression before.
This song was written when she was completely helpless after an operation she underwent. It's about wanting the pain to dissipate, and the sun shine through. It's definitely written from the perspective of a person who is either depressed or lost the will to see any positive attributes in their life.
I think this song is achingly beautiful and stark at the same time. It perfectly captures the darkness which can occur in one's mind when all is not going well
As Sheryl crow has set her self, this song was written about depression at a time in her life that she was feeling particularly depressed. So much so, that she didn’t even remember writing the song. She also said that she was so depressed at the time that if she could have muster the energy to cross the room that she would’ve jumped out the window.
She specifically stated that the term “black dog“ is a reference to depression.
