Track 99 Lyrics

Go ahead and build a better messiah,we can dig another grave
This is your calling.
If you are hearing this, there is nothing I can do
Something has grown in my chest.
And I have seen it.
It is hard and cold.
It's been dormant for many years.
I have tried to save you, but I cannot come to save you
But this is what you deserve
This is whta we deserve
This is something that we have brought upon ourselves
We are not a victim, you are not a victim
We are not a victim, you are not a victim
God will grovel before me.
God will crawl at my feet.
These are the dying years.
These are the dying years.
When you are suffering, know that I have betrayed you.

Track 99 is creepy. The first time I heard it, I thought my CD player was possessed. Marilyn Manson is a genius.

i think this song is pretty much what we are now, our societies current situation "this is what we deserve. this is something we have brought upon ourselves." it's sad and true, we really have fucked things up and when he says "When you are suffering, know that I have betrayed you." i think "i" refers to people in general.

Interestingly enough, if you put the album on loop, the distorted voice says the last phrase twice (once at the end of the album, and once at the beginning), and it's said with the same interval as the other phrases he repeated twice throughout this track, implying that the story of this album is cyclical, and at the end of the story, there's another worm somewhere that will eventually get it's wings and kill Manson to become the new Superstar.

Anyone have any idea what the other voice is saying in the background? It sounded like it was reversed, so I flipped it backwards, but I still can't understand it. I doubt it's English.

OK, I listened to it again. It seems he's saying (in a reversed voice) "When you are suffering, know that I have betrayed you." He says this 3 times, then he says "These are the dying years." He ends with a phrase that I still can't understand, but it sounds like "Let __ new dark age ___"

Note about my last comment

The voice sounds like it was recorded, then flipped backwards, but the phrases I described are heard when it's listened to normally.
