Why has no one commented on this?!? This song is brilliant. How awesome that David uses such language to demonstrate how everyone is selling out to Corporate America. We teach it to our young. All that we care about anymore is money. Its so hard to understand how terrible that is until a person hears this song.

The story shifts to the wife and her kids. They are laying out by the pool with all of the other moms and kids. As their dad arrives home he hugs his kids. Bazan uses his nail-biting cynicism to say what is really going on in the picture of the mom and dad and their kids. These kids are unaware of the inhertance they are receiving. This line could be taken many ways. It could mean the unversal theme of these kids inheritaning moral depravity or a more localized theme of the kids being taught to love the taste of “corporate cum”. This harsh line could come at no better of a time. Bazan is saying that we are raising our kids in a society that teaches them that consumerism and climbing the corporate ladder is what our society deems as success. David Bazan knows that there is more to life than the GNP and a brand new car. God gives meaning to life. This theme is much more evident in his earlier cds, but it is obvious that he is explaing why things are wrong. Dads are having affairs, moms are concerned about their tans, and the kids are being taught to love things. I have never heard a song that portrays the human condition better than this one.

This is actually my favorite song on "control". David's political messages on this disk are stronger than ever and I think it's about time. The graphic language may offend, but David doesn't care anymore.... hey, HM magazine likes him no matter what he does...

haha, fading, isn't that true. although i think HM will hold on to any person that says theyre a christian... for dear life. but i won't go into that. this ties for my second favorite on the album. my fave is magazine, but this one's imagery is awesome... but Second Best could make me cry if i listened to it enough. it's just a great album.

Exactly, and if you have kids, you know how important it is to make sure that they are raised right. MY kids are being raised to appreciate the truly important things in life, not fleeting things like money and power. I just want them to be happy, and I want them to define success for themselves.

I think the beat is definitely catchy and the words definitely speak to me... PTL definitely rocks! And i definitely feel that America, for the most part, is all about money and things that really don't matter... it speaks to me... we need to change man!

i understand the first part, and i know the song is about corporate america and ruining the way we are raising our children, but what is the whole last part about from "dont you just love the sun" to the end, im racking my brain but i cant put a finger on the translation, and waht exactly is an indian summer? and i like the cynisism about tanning, and how thats buying into corporate america too. at least thats what im taking bazan to mean. DAMN why cant he just join songmeanings and tell us what he means!

HAS ANYBODY NOTICED HOW THIS ALBUM (CONTROL) IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE BOOK OF ECCLESIASTES? (REMEMBER "EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN?)
