this song is about escaping. catalina is an island off california and this song is about how this guy is sitting there and he has to get away "can't tell me what to do can't make me think i love you!" that's amazing writing. the guys in descendents like boats a lot i guess, they sing about them a lot. i think one of the former members died in a boating accident but i might be wrong. someone did i'm pretty sure. anyways this song is about how he's going to escape all this shit at home or on land or whatever and just go out on his boat where nobody can bug him. i feel that way a lot. i wish i had a boat, or an ocean.

he says "got all the FISH I need on the deck of my boat" Like fish=vagina. he don't want yr vagina. he just wants to go fishin'.

why has no one posted to this song? its a fuckin excellent song! i know itsa guy singing about a chick but still..the first few lines... "my room's a mess, but i don't care i m tired of sitting at my desk you can't bother me i'm far away from you got to get away you can't ruin my day you can't tell me what to do you can't make me think i love you!!! shoot it in the arm, you can't hurt me" i can totally relate to that...

This song is a pretty good song. Just thought I'd share that.

I think this song isn't about a girl, it's about Catalina Island. I mean...I'm from the UK, but I'm guessing it's only a boat ride away from the coast..? Plus with all the boat and squid references. Blahblah. My favourite tune on the album anyway.

The Beatles must be the most referenced band in history. It seems like every band references the Beatles in at least one of their songs.

I think it's pretty obvious what this song's about (maybe because it's how I usually feel). He feels surrounded by sex, he wants it, but only on a primal level. There are other things that are more important to him, so he tries to get away. Obviously, he's not very successful. Apart from the broken motor and lack of fuel, he still can't stop thinking about girls ("it's a long swim home for your cute little arms", "the only fish i smell is on the back of my boat"). He seems pretty determined at the end, though, like he still believes he can escape. Funny song, and typical Descendents lyrics.

yeah the fish lyric is pretty funny..i guess his past girl friends never douched very often. smelly roast beef, eeew...

it wasn't a former member, but a good friend of the band, that died in a boating accident.
