i'm not a punk, how can i be?
show me the way to conformity
try to be different but it's always the same
end up playin' someone else's game
i'm just a square goin' nowhere
i'm just a square goin' nowhere
you used to walk by my side
now you see me comin' now you hide
i see you here i see you there
i can see that you don't care
i'm just a square goin' nowhere

General CommentTHIS IS NOT A NO NAME PUNK BAND. this is the descendents, guys that bridged Black Flag's social relevance with simpler topic such as girls and fishing so that we were lucky enough to have bands like NOFX

    Rock heirarchy
    Ramones>>Black FLAG>>Descendents>>NOFX

and NOFX led to countless shitty pop bands but you can't hold that against them.

But as for this song it was WAYY ahead of it's time. Hell, this would have been ahead of it's time in the late nineties when you look at what the scene has become in the new millenium.

A quick poll, does anyone say they like "Punk" anymore? Or do you just say "I'm going to a Rock 'n Roll show?

General CommentI think that the song is saying that not doing something because everyone else is doing it is the same as doing something because everyone is doing it. Opposition to conformity is another type of conformity. Being punk is about being yourself. About not sacrificing who you are to fit in. Showing what you think on the outside. If to you that means spiking your hair and peircing yourself, by all means, go ahead. If its not, don't do it just because you want to follow everyones' perception of what "Punk" is.

General CommentThis song is ok, I love the lyrics, but the music isn't that great. It's a pretty cool song anyway though, I think it's just about someone who isn't a punk....they're just a square that's conforming to society.

General Commentgood song ...if ya like this one u might like "Hey Kid" by the ataris ...."Just as long as I act cool,
Then people will suck up to me.
    They won't realize that I'm a fake,
And that's what I'm going to be.
    A dreamer and a kid,
    who changes every day.
    Someone that has to talk,
When he's got nothing to say.

Hey kid, it's a great big world
out there that you think you need to see.
Hey kid, go on and live that life...
    But live it without me!

    Bitch, bitch, bitch!
    That's all you ever do.
    Bitch, bitch, bitch!
No one's more punk than you.
    Bitch, bitch, bitch!
Your life is just a trend.
    Bitch, bitch, bitch!
We'll see who's happy in the end

General CommentThis is like a theme for me. I have a punk friend. We eat lunch together and some Radiohead song comes on the student radio station. He goes "what the fuck is this," I say "it's Radiohead, they suck but this song is OK." He says "and you call yourself a punk." The fact is I have never proclaimed to be a punk. I love punk rock and have a hooded sweatshirt covered with band patches but do the clothes make you a punk? I hate the stupid punk rock rule book where, to be punk you must listen to punk exclusivly. And I thought punk was about going by your own rules. Punk is dead folks, get over it. Punk rock is still great though.

General Commentthis song inspired me. i'm very much in the punk scene, in 3 bands at the time and i used to feel like i was unaccepted because i din't have a mohawk or whatever but then i kind of realized that if i did get one i would end up hating myself. you see, i'm not much of a fan of all the preps or jocks, pretty much any group where you have to strive to fit in and be up on the latest fashions and trends to be thought of as cool and think about it kids with mohawks and leather jackets... are you doing the same thing? in some cases you aren't but in others it is the exact same. kids trying to live out this "punk" look to be different but really are just the same. that reminds me of this movie called "slc punk" it's one of the better movies i've seen, in this movie this guy is like "fuck it all i'm original blah blah blah" and he goes on and beleivs this until he realizes that to be different you have to be yourself. that's what this song is about to me

General Commenti agree with ryan in most points...
if you want to be different, don't try to be someone else, try to be yourself..
that's what this songs wants to say (in my opinion)...

i don't think that punk is dead. i think punk still lives, for me, punk is being yourself, a individual person who thinks on his own and do what he wants (while making sure, that he do it wise)... also keep on 'fighting' against wrong things..i mean, open his mouth and say whats wrong, try do to smth against it...
people who say there are punks and dress like them just to fit in aren't punks at all....(i mean, i like some punk clothes, too but i wear it cuz i like them...) PUNK IS SOMETHING IN YOUR MIND, YOU CAN'T WEAR IT!
