Hmm
Whoah

They can say,
Anything they want to say
Try to bring me down, but I will not
Allow anyone to succeed hanging clouds over me,
And they can try
How to make me feel that I
Don't matter at all
But I refuse to falter in what I believe or loose faith in my dreams

'Cause there's
There's a light in me
That shines brightly
They can try
But they can't take that away from me
From me

Oh oh
No, no, no, no, no, no
Ay

Oh they
They can do
Anything they want to you
If you let them in
But they won't ever win
If you cling to you pride, and just push them aside,
See I,
I have learned
There's an inner peace I own
Something in my soul that they can not possess
Oh I won't be afraid and the darkness will fade

'Cause there's
There's light in me me
That shines brightly, yes
They can try
But they can't take that away from me

No, oh
They can't take this
Precious love I'll always have inside me,
Certainly the Lord will guide me where I need to go

Woah, woah
They can say
Anything they want to say
Try to bring me down
But I won't face the ground
I will rise steadily sailing out of their reach
Although they do try
How to make me feel that I,
Don't matter at all,
But I refuse to fall,
Tell me what I believe or loose faith in my dreams
'Cause there's a light in me
That shines brightly yes

They can try but they can't take that away from
Me
From me
No, no, no, no, no, no

We hold power over ourselves...no matter who may try to break you or make you feel unworthy..if you have love for yourself then they cannot succeed in hurting you.

Mariah Carey is one of the best singers in the business, alot of ppl I know think so. She has a amazing gift, and if you don't agree, keep it to yourself rather than try to piss her fans off!

I think this song, even though it's inspirational like "Hero", came out of a time of ultimate frustration for Mariah. I don't know if this was due to problems with her record label, or other things, but it is not just another sappy ballad. The message is that with inner-strength, you can overcome anything. Not only does Mariah write about it, but she's a living example of faith and perserverance, which is why the song means more to fans than to people who know nothing about Mariah except the things the media makes up.

I totally agree with EyesOnly, this song is about Mariahs frustrations with people not accepting her as she is, they judge her before they know her background. Mariahs one of the least superficial artists i know out there, being a huge fan of hers I understand her in that way and I know that she is a fighter and she is very talented. This song is beautiful and I salute Mariah once more for a power ballad.

mariah is one of the very few pop stars that understands about technique. there is so much more to singing than just belting it out and using lots of vibrato and embellishment. in case you didn't notice, charisma, this woman has a fucking 3 1/2 octave range. now that takes talent. i'm more of a metal head/classic rock oriented person so it's rare for some one like me to like Mariah Carey, yet somehow she breaks through to the other side. i don't see how anyone couldn't like her, if not for her personality, then simply for her amazing voice.

This song takes your breath away...it's inspiring and sad at the same time, I remember listening to it and cry thinking I wish I could feel that way, when I remain so weak at the critics that I receive. At the end of the song, when she sings "there's a light in me that shines brightlyyyyyyyyyyy..."...it's very hard not to cry after that...

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
