For Those Who Died Lyrics
Our tongues they could not silence with their malicious lies,
their unforgotten violence, remember those who died.
And as my flesh is put to fire I hear their voices still,
their unjust accusations demanding I am killed.
"We shall show no mercy to heathen such as thee,
who stand accused and have refused the Church's clemency,
your wicked acts are endless through the crimes we cannot name,
innocent or guilty proved, we'll burn you just the same."
Burning, into the fire.
Burning, a funeral pyre.
Burning, into the fire.
Burning, a funeral pyre.
This self-righteous inquisition is a plague upon our land,
as false as the confessions they force from shattered hands.
Abused my broken body is cleansed by righteous flame,
their God a 'God of Mercy' yet in whose name I slain.
My innocence the victim of their superstitious fears,
religious persecution for the past three hundred years.
Preaching peace and mercy 'neath the shadow of the knife,
a papal reign of terror, slaughter in the name of Christ.
And as my flesh is put to fire I hear their voices still,
their unjust accusations demanding I am killed.
"We shall show no mercy to heathen such as thee,
who stand accused and have refused the Church's clemency,
your wicked acts are endless through the crimes we cannot name,

This isn't actually written by anyone in Cradle of Filth -- it was originally done by Sabbat, the finest thrash metal band Great Britain ever produced.
Ya...I wouldn't say it's so much the salem witch trials exclusively as the entire age, and I'd say more the inquisition then anything. And for all you Wicca lovers up there, I hate to burst your bubble but the church did not target Wiccans exclusively(not even close). They targeted anyone suspected of witch craft and heresy. The inquisition made it legal to use torture to extract confessions from those suspected. Most people, even if they were not guilty of the charges, confessed under pressure of torture anyway and declared heretics. So, in the end, more Christians who had confessed under torture were killed then actual pagans or heretics. Wicked song, btw;)
An important, powerful, and wicked song. Cradle of Filth sing about tragedies such as the genocide of the wiccan, pagans, and druids in medieval England. Most people are ignorant as to what happened and these dudes are telling the truth and in an awesome format. Fuck all those assholes that killed us wiccans. I am a wiccan and for all you ignorant people out there, here's a fact:
WICCANS DO NOT WORSHIP OR EVEN BELIEVE IN SATAN. WE LOVE NATURE, PEACE, MAGICK AND WE BELIEVE IN THE HORNED GOD AND THE GODDESS.
The targets of the European and Salem witch hunts were those who were believed to be practicing satanic witchcraft and heresy. Not earth worship. I am also Wiccan and understand what you're trying to say but, there are other forms of Magick besides the Wiccan practice.

Agreed. This song is one of the finest ever written about the Burning Times. This is also, imo, one of the best versions, featuring as it does a duet between Martin Walkyier of Sabbat and Dani Filth. The actual contents of the song, as said, are very simple to understand. It tells us that we should not forget what atrocities men can commit whilst working under what they believe to be a doctrine of peace, and that you can NEVER silence the voices of the truly righteous.
this is obviously about the salem witch trials.. they were burned for no fucking reason because abigail and her supid sister and a bunch of their friends decided to act possessed and blame it on witchery done by others they disliked... i mean seriously that was screwed up.. so anyways.. they were being burned alive and for that stupididty they will burn those who burned them the same way they burned them..
Just felt like saying that Wicca was formed about 50 years ago, and the Salem Witch Trials were a few hundred years ago. And Christians were killed for their beliefs too.
As people have said before me, I think it's about the Salem Witch Trials and how they were falsly accused but murdered, all the same.
ahaha guys, the crucible was messed :P it explains the song though
paul of tarsus created christianity, but yes it's about religion and it's terrors it causes , all the atrocities attributed with dogma whilst people of non religious origin aren't always the bad ones.
this song was originally done by one of the best thrash bands ever, sabbat. the person doing clean vox in this amazing cover is the singer of sabbat. if u dont understand this song, ur a retard. its about european witch hunt
