when i saw you there in the shadow of the setting sun
when i saw you there in the shadow of the setting sun
you looked so beautiful
you looked so beautiful

when i saw you there i couldn't resist your tender kiss
when i saw you there i couldn't resist your warm caress

you had so much to give
you had your time to live
christfuck christfuck

i will bring us thru this

as always i will carry you kicking and screaming
and in the end you will thank me

you had your time to live

cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry
cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry
cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry

christfuck

    My Interpretation

I originally thought this song was blasphemous but, having read the thoughtful interpretations previously presented, I now have a totally different view. I now believe that this song is amazing.

I believe that the singer is portraying someone who lived at the time of Christ. He met Christ. Christ, the son of God, must have been the most beautiful human because, let’s face it, He was the son of God. In that area of the world, I would imagine that people greeted each other with a kiss. Meeting Christ, truly gentle and loving, must have been the most extraordinary experience. Christ was betrayed by the Jewish leaders and turned over to the Romans who tortured and crucified Him. The singer, with pain in his voice, is describing the crucifixion of Christ. Christfuck. In other words, Christ was fucked in the worst sense of the word! The picture of the crown of thorns is a perfect touch. “i will bring us thru this as always i will carry you kicking and screaming and in the end you will thank me” I believe, are the words of Christ because, although He had His time to physically live, He will, one day, return.

I hope my interpretation is correct. In any event, it is what I am going to believe because it is a wonderful rendition of the Christ story. Thank you to Wumpscut. I will be playing this over and over.

Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
