Naveed Lyrics

Come come Naveed...

Tell me are you there, tell me
is it comfortable?
Did you want to escape,
try to escape
the population?

The pressure is deceiving,
and for you particularly
Should we let a young man die?
Let him die if he wants to?
Die if he wants to

I can't live here anymore
But It's hard when you reach for that floor
something that tears inside me,
so I can't go

Brother are you there?
Now tell me is it wonderful?
Or were you hoping to find
Hoping to find
something a little more?

Climbing down the hours
I need to know now
Do the hands of time only rule this chapter
I'll have to try once again,
I'll have to try when I want to
Try when I want to

I can't live here anymore
But It's hard when you reach for that floor
something that tears inside me,
So I can't live here anymore
Anymore,
Any...more

Prayer's on his knees again, trying hard to understand
Why Naveed would let a young man die
Convinced that he might break,
he reaches for the phone
And then another day has gone
Oh another day is gone
Oh another day is

Is gone ( x 16 )

I can't live here anymore
But It's hard when you reach for that floor
something that tears inside me,
So I can't live here anymore

"It's named after a friend of mine," Maida says. "His name is Naveed. He is Iranian and one day he told me the background (of the name) was a person referred to as a bearer of good news. The album title "NAVEED" kind of ties in all the lyrics. 'Naveed' talks about someone scared to die, but at the same time interested in it. Naveed was playing with a gun and was unaware that one chamber within the gun contained a bullet. We took the concept of Naveed and placed it in the dark optimism of our music. We have forced Naveed to travel the distance between mysticism and bitter reality..." Raine Maida

Y does this song only have this many posts? This was the good OLP, the new stuff sucks. The first three cds rock, but after Happiness is not a Fish you can Catch, I think it went downhill from there...

Best OLP song hands down, this or starseed anyways...

I did some research, and Naveed was actually someone that Raine Maida knew during his childhood (so was the Birdman I think?).

Naveed is a Persian word/name. Literally translated, it says "Bearer of good news".

ya I think I knew that actually, I know someone named Navid, kinda weird.

Hmmm, well Naveed, you're right on the part about the name Naveed, but the Birdman is about polititions, the people running our government. For me on the other hand, this song has a certin meaning for me. I think it's about a young man lost in life. Trying to understand why things are the way they are. As hard as he tries, he finds himself in another problem. And this song I can relate to. It's when the "shit hits the fan" and life has gotten to hard to bear in his present state. So he moves to get out.

P.s. Sorry about the spelling.

It's about losing someone to suicide and wondering just where they went and what they are doing...

I love the lines: Do the hands of time only rule this chapter?

It's asking that eternal question. When we die, does time stop? Does the world stop? Or does it continue on... Does the world revolve around us, or is it bigger then us?

Who can really answer it, for all we know of the world is what we see from our eyes. To me, I think the world does revolve around me, and this song is amazing, it makes me think every time I hear it... and I love that.

About what Naveed means, I personally think that in this song Naveed has a religious meaning and it is basically the "lifeforce of the world" if that makes any sense (sounds like hippie talk I know, I'm not a hippie either lol). But it's like the guy is asking God just how he could allow his "brother" to take his own life and not allow himself to do the same.

It's such a deep song, I'd love to hear what the guys were going for when they wrote it :)

I think Naveed could also be a man who killed someones brother and he (the surviving relative) is trying to contact Naveed to ask just why he did it... This is evident in the last verse

Prayer's on his knees again, trying hard to understand Why Naveed would let a young man die Convinced that he might break, he reaches for the phone And then another day has gone Oh another day is gone Oh another day is

I think the person in this song lost someone dear to them through Naveed's actions and they are contemplating just if they should go after him or if they should kill themselves, or if they should move on... And not being able to live there is a natural emotion for people who lose someone close to them, everything they see reminds them of that person and they just want to get away, yet it is so hard cause for some people that is all they have ever known... I also think there's some communication between the main guy in the song and the afterworld in this song, the whole do the hands of time only rule this chapter verse makes me think so. Oh well, I love this song.

Like I said, every time I hear this I get a new meaning :)

Naveed kinda reminds me of Dr. Kavorkian (remember that guy, the guy who killed people who wanted to die?) when I hear it and think on this tangent... It's weird, but I think it makes sense... I dont know if anyone else does though, oh well.

@osubuckeye4 I feel exactly the same. I find I do it with so many songs I attach to. I find I annoy people whenever a song that moves and speaks to me is played. Just wanting the world to know what a three minute pierce of sound can make someone feel.

Story of a man who is trying to save another from doing something stupid (suicide). "Pressure is deceiving, for you particularly" and "were you hoping to find a little more" both suggest disillusionment with life. But should the writer try and save him or leave him to his fate???

Cover art for Naveed lyrics by Our Lady Peace

I think this is a story about a person (Naveed) and his friend. His friend doesnt want to live, so he is thinking of comitting suicide, or actually does. Naveed wants his friend to live, but Naveed also knows that his friend wants to die. Well, I think you know the rest.
