Head On Lyrics
It seems like this song is pretty obviously about oral sex, and the giving and receiving therof. Here is why:
1) The title, which ought to be hint enough, is not featured anywhere in the song. 2) "As soon as I get my head around you, I come around catching sparks off you." 3) "Makes me wanna blow the stars from the sky." There are lots of ways of communicating that sentiment, but only one lets you use the word "blow." 4) "And all I ever got from you was all I ever took from you." Duh. 5) "I'm taking myself to a dirty part of town where all my troubles can't be found." For other colorful descriptions of female anatomy in the JAMC catalog, see "the damp and hungry place" in "Some Candy Talking" and "her honey-dripping beehive" in "Just Like Honey" (both also about oral sex, btw). 6) Additional evidence can be found in lines like "The world could die in pain/ And I wouldn't feel no shame," "I can't stand up, I can't cool down, I can't get my head off the ground."
It's interesting, the number of drug-related interpretations of JAMC songs that are actually about sex. Get your minds further into the gutter, people!
Get your minds further? Says the guy than says that such a free-minded, subjective lyrics like these are about oral sex. Lol. It's an interpretation. It might even be about it, but not only, and certainly not most importantly.

This song might be about drugs. This song might be about sex. But those aren't the most important things. First of all, not all lyrics are that concrete. I think these are very subjective. And what's more important in it, is the feeling, the state of mind they want to pass to us.
Having that said, I think this song is about... well I love what electric warrior said: "This song makes me feel crazy about being alive". I think you just said it all! I think this song is about someone who gets tired of the second hand living of nowadays ("that second hand living it just won't do"), and wants to start living his life in a more real way (second stanza), and not giving a shit about being politically correct ("and the world could die in pain\and i wouldn't feel no shame\and there's nothing holding me to blame"). It's about being free in your mind.
Nah it was brilliant before the Pixies touched it, even though their cover is good.
This song is indeed about being on drugs, my guess would be something like E or coke, especially because of the lines "And the way I feel tonight I could die and I wouldn't mind"
Damn... I hadnt thought about this song being about drugs or head, ever. These interpretations make sense, but i still have my own. This song to me makes me feel crazy about being alive. It feels like he is really energetic/excited, ready for something totally different and new. I feel like this on my better days when life is just rocking. But then again, i can totally see how it could be about drugs/sex as well.
At least, someone who gets it!

i think this song is about escapism.. via drugs. what else could one get their 'head around' and make them feel this way?
brilliant, somehow I can't stop listening to this song. I like it better Jesusmary chain way than pixies way, and yeez I agree I think its about drugs.
this song's about taking some kinda drug or dealing with the situation of someone dumping you I dont really know
Several Mary Chain songs, including this one, are basically about drugs, dressed up in the language of love and sex. Getting a sexual feeling from drug use, if you will. Of course Jiim Reid denies it now, but considering his situation at the time these songs were written, his denials don't hold up.
Cocaine, my friends. Leaning down, blowing some lines, catching sparks.
LOL, this song is not about drugs! You guys are ridiculous
Ridiculous??? I don't know if you are too young or intellectually incapable, but it's so damn obvious that this song is about drug! Cocaine or Heroine .... it really doesn't matter!
