"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Look into my eyes
You will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart
Search your soul
And when you find me there
You'll search no more
Don't tell me
It's not worth tryin' for
You can't tell me
It's not worth dyin' for
You know it's true
Everything I do
I do it for you
Look into your heart
You will find
There's nothin' there to hide
Take me as I am
Take my life
I would give it all
I would sacrifice
Don't tell me
It's not worth fightin' for
I can't help it
There's nothin' I want more
You know it's true
Everything I do
I do it for you, oh yeah
There's no love
Like your love
And no other
Could give more love
There's nowhere
Unless you're there
All the time
All the way, yeah
Look into your heart, babe
Yeah
Oh yeah
Oh, you can't tell me
It's not worth tryin' for
I can't help it
There's nothin' I want more
Yeah, I would fight for you
I'd lie for you
Walk the wire for you
Yeah, I'd die for you
You know it's true
Everything I do
Oh
I do it for you
Everything I do, darling
And we'll see it through
Oh, we'll see it through
Oh yeah
Yeah
Search your heart
Search your soul
You can't tell me it ain't worth dying for
Oh yeah
I'll be there, yeah, oh
I'll walk the wire for you, yeah
I will die for you
Oh yeah
All the time
I'm going all the way, all the way, yeah
Take me by the hand, oh
Ow
You will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart
Search your soul

No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
this is the greatest love song ever. the lyrics are just immense. sadly, i think in reality, it's hard to even feel anything close to what the song is portraying. still, that is one helluva love we can all hope for.
Fantastic song, one of his best even though it has no rock edge to it! Its rather self-explainatory howevere i also think he loves the woman more than she loves him cause of the lines - 'Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for' - she has some sorta doubt but hes telling her that this is the best love ever and he'd do anything for her, even die! Me and my exs song and when i hear it i think of him and all our great memories even tho now he hates me for no reason!
tghis song remins me of a guy who likes his girl so much tht he is ready to die for her and trust me,killing urself isnt a coward,u need a lot of guts to even die, many of us sumhow manage to live, but rarely even talk abt death,he is willing for fight the world for her, even willing to lie,he can just do anything and everything the girl wants.
spot on but i have to say as much "courage" as it takes to take your own life; the effort could be used to actually change your life...so lets not advocate suicide.
i think your right death is a serious thing and some people fear it but i am looking forward to my death
love this song......play over and over and over and over again
This song is obviously a man who loves a woman (or the other way around) very much and would do absolutely anything for her, even die for her. (Yeah, I'd die for you) She means a lot to him basically.
this song just reminds me of Robin Hood.
Same here, but more importantly the love between marion and robin for the simple reason that the very movie it was used in, is also the best Robin Hood movie of all times
I'll disagree with the NFG being better, it's a timeless classic, and if you try and redo it, your going to end up with it just not sounding right everytime your hear it. Kind of like trying to redo Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze or something: YOU JUST CANNOT DO IT. This song is beautiful, it shows exactly what a real man who's really in love with a woman will do for her. But I agree with Sousapalooza: when you have lost your woman or can't get her, then it is a sad song....
Yes. This song is about how much he loves this girl. But he's pretty much saying he's living because of her. If she wasn't around there would be no point living. And he would die for her.
This song is a really sweet love song. That's all that needs to be said.
Well the Title of the song says it all..'Everything I do,I do it For You'.... The Guy is basically trying to tell the girl how much he luvs her....He Loves the girl more than anything else in the world..He would give up anything or anyone just to be loved back..He asks the girl to search her heart & soul..coz he kno's dat he'z thr sumwhre n whn she finds him she'd want nuthn else..He does'nt want all the things dat he'z doin for her to be worthless..He wants to be loved back..She knows abt him luvn her n knows dat everything he does,he does it for her.... He asks the girl to take him the way he is..Jus the way he is..take his life n world if she wants, for her he'd giv it all...Everything is for her,he'll do anything for her.... Then he says that thr'z nuthn bttr Than loving her n wanting her,n he knows dat noone can love him as much as she can when she realizes sum things... He Wants her more than anything else in the world n he'd do anything for her...He'd kill for her,die for her,lie for her, would go thru anythng life-threatng jus to be wid her and get her..He'd do anything for his love...He does'nt wanna know dat all of dis would come to nuthn coz inside deep down he believes she'z his!!...In the end he says again,"Baby,U know i LoVe u,N everything I Do,I Do It For You!"....This is someones way to express love and emotions towards a person he loves,Dis is true love for someone a guy is expressing.they r surely not together..The girl knows abt him lovin her but There is something in between.....Jus my opinion, datz how i listn to it..!!
