Stars And Stripes Lyrics

Welcoming with open arms and with open hearts. In the end they found their arms i shackles and their hearts torn out. This country named "America" is built on graves. Of the natives who lived here before genocide took place. the word "America" means "Freedom" - as in, "Free to kill the free..."

Chorus: Don't fly those stripes, those stars and stripes for me.

It's the same today as then, as US (tax) dollars are spent. To rid the native insurgence in Mexico, and any other US (corporate) "Interests". The 3rd world is a modern day playground for multinational companies. And the tax dollars we're forced to pay, fund these heartless US policies. Their explanations... "Its national interest, national security".

At little big horn national cemetery, there's a monument that reads: "To the soldiers killed in Montana while clearing hostile Indians away..." And there's a flag there flying high, over the fallen killers' graves. When they call on me to die for them, I'll say... "Not me!".

The following is the note that Anti-Flag attached to the lyrics of this song in the Underground Network CD panphlet: *Special note - the main content in the lyrics of "stars and stripes" is making a reference to the genocide carried out by the US towards Native Americans. At the same time it is also calling attention to the fact that just as the US exploited Native American nations at the turn of the 19th century in the name of "progress," the US presently exploits third world nations in the name of "National interest" Unfortunately, as in the case of Colombia, US politicians often send armed forces, money, or both, into foreign nations because they have a personal or financial investment at stake; or as a favor to their friends in big buisness who contribute huge amounts of money to their political campaigns. it is not to protect america from a legitimate threat, and not as an act of compassion.

Anti-Flag kicks my ass, and this song is so right...

I bet if they took on that O'Reilly guy, the one who has the show "O'reilly factor"; Bob O'Reilly would have nothing to say after Anti speaks their mind. I wish I could see that.

Punk in drublic says... Anti-Flag are very opinionated, indeed. I just wish more people would listen to them and open their eyes to what's going on in the governments. Also, to call attention to the corrupt government and politics in Canada. I'd also like to say... people, lets just face something here... we're not totally being oppressed.. I mean, you gotta realize that the CIA isn't going to rush in and drag you away to some rehabilation secret government base any moment. And do you know why? Because we're obviously not doing enough to actually make them want to stop us.. we're just a "bunch of punks with growing pains, we'll probably be doctors and lawyers some day" they're not afraid of what we can really do, and you know.. I'm not either. We have way more to accomplish before we're a real threat and I think Anti-Flag puts the awareness that there is a problem, it's up to us to take that problem and fix it.

this song is sooo strong in its pyrics. people are brought up to THINK their right about their country. but they dont even know or were told in the first place what this country is REALLY about. i think justin sane very much plainly said the truth. this country is just built on bloodshed and lies.

yes anti-flag does raise some strong points through this song, however people shouldn't have to listen to a song to realize what's happening, and see the corruption commited by the government and media. Nevertheless it's a great song, as punk in drublic says more ppl should listen to it...
