Ten Years Gone Lyrics
And though the course may change sometimes
Rivers always reach the sea
Blind stars of fortune, each have several rays
On the wings of maybe, downey birds of prey
Kind of makes me feel sometimes, didn't have to grow
But as the eagle leaves the nest, it's got so far to go
In the midst I think of you, and how it used to be
And really need 'em bad
Did you ever really want somebody
The best love you ever had
Do you ever remember me, baby
Did it feel so good
'Cause it was just the first time
And you knew you would
Senses growing keen
Taste your love along the way
See your feathers preen
Kind of makes makes me feel sometimes
Didn't have to grow
We are eagles of one nest
The nest is in our soul
Never thought I'd see your face
The way it used to be
Oh darlin', oh darlin'
I never gonna leave
Holdin' on, ten years gone
Ten years gone, holdin' on, ten years gone
Ten years gone, holdin' on
A man who told me he loved me ten years ago and whose feelings I didn't reciprocate, came back into my life about eight months ago...he's grown up in those ten years, and he just sent me the lyrics to TEN YEARS GONE in a message...and it tore me up. It so fits what has happened between us, to him, to me, since then. We're giving it another try, and this time I'm knocked off my feet by his intensity and depth of feelings for me. Craziness! Led Zeppelin has always been my favorite band of all time.
this song gives me an erection and im a girl
wow, this is one of those songs I never caught all the lyrics to, but just liked its overall sound and vocal style. But this changed for me yesterday.
I'll explain.....
30 years ago I met and fell in love with an amazing woman. my bad habits and overall insecurity caused us to part company 20 years ago. No calls, letters, casual or indirect contact for a complete 20 years. But I remained deeply in love with her. 2 failed extended engagements/relationships later I was basically still a bachelor when I managed to contact her thru facebook. Turns out we were both single and I took her out for dinner. We have been almost inseparable for 6 months now.
Yesterday, this song came on the radio and I caught a few lyrics. So I looked them up....
"then as it was, then again it will be".
I read the whole thing and was stunned, thinking how closely one persons experiences and emotions can compare to your own is uplifiting to say the least. (I got chills)
In Plant's situation he probably made a good descision choosing his music over his love. Im my case I made some bad descisions, and its a life changing experience to get a second chance.
This song will remain very special to me until I pass on from this world, and maybe longer.
Oh yes, and the music is just as amazing as the lyrics.
I'm 18 and everybody in my school thinks i'm weird cus I listen to Classic Rock. I have yet to find a new band that's as good as Zeppelin, and they are only my 4th favorite band (Kansas, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, in that order).
After Kashmir, my fav zep song, 2,3, and 4 are very hard to pick. Any zep fan who doesn't have stairway in their top five is not a tru zep fan. But Ten Years Gone and Fool in the Rain are so awesome as well. I couldn't even begin to try to put them in order.
Anyway, I have read recently on Wikipedia that the song is about a woman who told RP that it was either "her or the music". He sees her ten years later, and he wonders if she had ever thought about him. It appears to me that it was the first romance for each of them("do you ever remember me baby, did it feel so good, CUS IT WAS JUST THE FIRST TIME, and you knew it would.") I can't even imagine how hard it was for him to pick. You can tell that he really loved her, or he wouldn't have written about her later (I'm sure that made his wife angry, him writing a love song about another woman.) On the other hand, when you have that desire to create art, you really can't just ignore it.

@TheKooster - Sorry, but "Blind stars of fortune, Each have several rays" is indeed correct.Beautiful lyric. Plus "grow" not "go" the first time. He's saying that maybe he didn't have to head out on his own because he feels just as strongly about her as he did then. Other little stuff, but it's just ticky tack sh*t. I'd like to see you do Kashmir, tho. There is one line EVERYONE gets wrong. It's truly amazing. I'm not saying it isn't hard to kin- it is. But the fact NO ONE gets it right blows my mind....

WYWH, How could you put Kansas in front of Led Zepp and Pink Floyd??
Kansas was pretty awesome, and despite their success still under-recognized. Their talent and brilliance were THE American response to the British prog scene, not as imitators, but innovators. Epics songs like Journey from Mariabronn, Song for America, Magnum Opus, Portrait, and etc set a standard for artistic music in the States that few have flirted with. I don't have a great opinion on list orders since different seasons have me cycle through each of those named. But, it would be hard to discount any one of them.

this song reminds me of the sweetest girl i ever met, I lost her a while back, but now I'm getting back together.
Then as it was, then again it will be :)
PURE POETRY. It seems that this guy(Mr. Plant) had either a one night stand with this woman or was a past girlfriend of his and had the fortunateness to reunite with her after a long period of time. It also hints on a fate / zen kind of love that had the chance to be reopened after a long time of being apart.
i think this song is talking about first love and growing up and apart. then they meet again...it definately has something to do with fate. it is so beautiful...i love it.
The lyrics to this song were written about a girlfriend of Plant's who made him pick her or the music. ..I think he made the right decision.
