Blood Lyrics

I see the happy the family tree
It sways so easily
We're smiling all the time
This world just isn't mine

We watch it burn
And we never learn
This can't be what you're waiting for
Staring into the sun
We eat our young
This can't be what you're waiting for

Just take it easy on yourself
Forget all the stupid things we say
I know you beat up on yourself
I know it's in your blood

You say what no one understands
The seeds are in your hands
The branches break your bones
I can't just leave you alone
And watch you squirm

And I can't bring myself to look
I rip the pages from the book
And watch it burn

I dont believe hes saying he wants to eat his young. I think hes more or less saying that we as human, most of us anyways, know how many lies and deceptions there are in the world and still we bring children in to it. We know that they are going to hurt seeing the world and the way society is so were basically eating our young. This is just an opinion and its the first time Ive read these lyrics. Certain songs have different meanings to other people anyways.

my opinion is that the line of "eat our young" is a reference to the god Saturn of Greek mythology who ate his children because he was afraid they would get too powerful and overthrow him. Later his son Zeus survived and killed him or something. I think hes just kind of using it to symbolize fucked up families in general and deep family resentment and pain and other not so fun stuff.

One more comment: All this hurt in the world is caused by mindless buffons who are being sucked into modern pop culture and dragged around like zombies or robots.

Deep insight. He's grown up with the happy family facade and life facades. He's not bitter, but compassionate to the needs of somone else. It's painful.

ok, i'm gonna totally go out on a limb here, but this is wat i think:

I see the happy the family tree (sees his family tree, before and after his generation) It sways so easily (metaphorically makes the tree real) We're smiling all the time (All generations are happy) This world just isn't mine (except him)

We watch it burn (his family is tearing apart) And we never learn (they won't stop breaking apart) This can't be what you're waiting for (his wife can't just be waiting for them to break up) Staring into the sun (being binded) We eat our young (they're bringing their problems to their kids and ruining their lives) This can't be what you're waiting for (bad kids can't be what she wants)

Just take it easy on yourself (consoling her after telling her this) Forget all the stupid things we say (trying to make up) I know you beat up on yourself (he knows she blames herself for it all) I know it's in your blood (her side of the family blames itself for a lot)

You say what no one understands (she tries to explain, but nobody understands) The seeds are in your hands (it's all up to her now, in her opinion) The branches break your bones (it's too much for her to do it by herself) I can't just leave you alone (he decides to help) And watch you squirm (he'd feel bad)

And I can't bring myself to look (he thinks he's failing) I rip the pages from the book (so he takes a fit over it) And watch it burn (and watches wat happens once he does, tearing the family apart again..)

My personal interpration portrays two siblings who feel the same pain because they share the same "blood".

By looking at the family two, the two siblings see the past when they are happy and "smiling all the time" but now everything "burn[ing]" as they grow up. Things don't go the way they dreamed, the future seems very dim, "This can't be what you're waiting for".

My interpretation for "We eat our young" is completely metaphorical. I think it states that human beings tend to destroy what they worked so hard on and what they treasure the most.

"Just take it easy on yourself Forget all the stupid things we say I know you beat up on yourself I know it's in your blood".

My interpretation of this stanza is basically saying, "We all make mistakes, don't be so hard on yourself; don't be feel bad. Forgot all the fighting and arguing when you know they meant nothing. I know you beat yourself up for your mistakes, I know because I'm like you, we share the same blood. It'll be okay."

The last stanza in my opinion means throwing away the bad past, and trying to move forward.

I see the happy the family tree It sways so easily We're smiling all the time This world just isn't mine

( Imagining what could have been; a positive family relationship with blood relatives. However, acknowledging that this isn't the case for them. )

We watch it burn And we never learn This can't be what you're waiting for Staring into the sun We eat our young This can't be what you're waiting for

( Speaking on repeated family behavior, throughout the generations: Not taking responsibility for the actions of thyself and how ones actions could be the cause for a lot of turmoil. Instead, being overly critical of the younger family member for not meeting expectations. )

Just take it easy on yourself Forget all the stupid things we say I know you beat up on yourself I know it's in your blood

( Speaking to the younger family member: Don't take the harsh words, spoken by the adults, to heart. Don't repeat the pattern of feeling inadequate. ( They recognize that this is a behavior that's been passed down throughout the generations. ))

You say what no one understands The seeds are in your hands The branches break your bones I can't just leave you alone And watch you squirm

( Adult version of the younger family member speaking to thyself, in third person; Transitioning to first person: They have the power to change the pattern. They try to make amends with the family members that have hurt them, but it's too much. )

And I can't bring myself to look I rip the pages from the book And watch it burn

( They give up and cut ties. )
