My personal interpration portrays two siblings who feel the same pain because they share the same "blood".
By looking at the family two, the two siblings see the past when they are happy and "smiling all the time" but now everything "burn[ing]" as they grow up. Things don't go the way they dreamed, the future seems very dim, "This can't be what you're waiting for".
My interpretation for "We eat our young" is completely metaphorical. I think it states that human beings tend to destroy what they worked so hard on and what they treasure the most.
"Just take it easy on yourself
Forget all the stupid things we say
I know you beat up on yourself
I know it's in your blood".
My interpretation of this stanza is basically saying, "We all make mistakes, don't be so hard on yourself; don't be feel bad. Forgot all the fighting and arguing when you know they meant nothing. I know you beat yourself up for your mistakes, I know because I'm like you, we share the same blood. It'll be okay."
The last stanza in my opinion means throwing away the bad past, and trying to move forward.
