Flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker
Here you are
Cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata
Caterpillar girl
Flowing in and filling up my hopeless heart
Oh, never, never go

Oh, I'll dust my lemon lies
With powder, pink and sweet
The day I stop is the day you change
And fly away from me

You flicker and you're beautiful
You glow inside my head
You hold me hypnotized, I'm mesmerized
Your flames, the flames that kiss me dead

I'll dust my lemon lies
With powder, pink and sweet
The day I stop's the day you change
And fly away from me

Oh, flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker
Here you are
Cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata
Caterpillar girl
Flowing in and filling up my hopeless heart
Oh, never, never go

Oh, I'll dust my lemon lies
With powder, pink and sweet
The day I stop's the day you change
And fly away, away from me

Cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata, caterpillar girl
Cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata, caterpillar girl
Cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata, caterpillar girl
Cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata
Cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata-cata, caterpillar girl

Another of the cure's somewhat abstract lovesongs... I just like the imagery on this one.

Flowing in And filling up my hopeless heart Oh never never go Dust my lemon lies With powder pink and sweet The day I stop Is the day you change And fly away from me

She enters his life, makes him feel whole.. then something hapens and she flutters away.

    My Interpretation

I think this is about a manipulative relationship. Caterpillar Girl doesn't realize her 'muchness' - how beautiful she is, ect.

"Dust my lemon lies with powder pink and sweet." He tells her little things that boost her just enough to put her down again, keeping her down, with him, to keep her from flying away. Through everything, she "dusts everything with powder pink and sweet" in his life -- she's "sweet" to him, does everything for him.

"The day I stop's the day you change and fly away from me." The day he stops manipulating her, the day she becomes free and realizes who she is, she becomes a butterfly and flies away from him.

have you seen the video??? SOOOO freaky! Its like really fantastic imagery there are these guys in this chinese dragon costume dancing around all scarily and is set inside a big french type arboretum, and there are big huge tropical plants everywhere, and the entire keyboard of the piano keeps bouncing up and down like the piano is made of play-doh or somethign, and even the guitarist' guitar is bouncing up and down disturbingly. it is a fuckin trip.

when I heard this song for the first time I was like can someone actually make this kind of music, but soon I fell in love with it. the video is crazy, I think the bouncing keyboard of the piano is an amazing thing, makes me smile every time I see it!! but I agree with GothicBlade, it's about a girl who just flutters away from a guy.

This is what I marched down the aisle to for my wedding. I thought it was appropriate.

I like to see this song as a companion to the song "Shake dog shake" on the same album. A "pure" girl that gives you hope to overcome the loathsome beast that is yourself.

bloodflowers: there's a few easter eggs on the greatest hits dvd. go the the song selection and highlight the walk and then press down, right, right. Or you could look for staring at the sea: the images. You could probably find all that stuff on their online store.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
