| Covenant – Theremin Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| The thing I dont get.... nowhere in the song is there a bloody theremin playing. | |
| Wumpscut – Hang Him Higher Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| I honestly think this has to do with a tribe of pagans who had been persecuted by the church deciding to try to track down a priest or the pope and get revenge. | |
| Apoptygma Berzerk – Electronic Warfare Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| I'd rather like to belive its a reference to combat in the Matrix (William Gibson / othe classic cyberpunk Matrix, not the hollywod movie matrix). More than a few references to Black Ice. | |
| Voltaire – The Man Upstairs Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| I wonder if the "man upstairs" and "guy downstairs" are references for god and satan? | |
| Voltaire – Future Ex-Girlfriend Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| Yeah, but some of us actually use our real names, thus negating the issue. :P | |
| Funker Vogt – Shaven Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
Yeah, definitely a recipie for some wild sex, if you can find a girl who isnt offended by it. *laugh* For a real kick, try requesting it at a nightclub, and *having it played*. Most fun. |

| Sting – Moon Over Bourbon Street Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
I like this song just because it tells a nice story. I've always favored narrative lyrics. Everyone else is right o about its meaning though. I'm not sure if its really tied to Anne Rice at all though... I just dont know how the release of the various books line up with the song's release. Also, if you've read the books, none of the vampires ever stalk a living girl for any length of time. " She walks everyday through the streets of New Orleans She's innocent and young from a family of means I have stood many times outside her window at night To struggle with my instinct in the pale moonlight" He's obviously fallen in love with a living human, but is unable to do anything about it because of his nature. |

| The Cure – The Same Deep Water as You Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| This is my favorite song. Period. Ever. No bones about it. The first cure song I ever heard, and the last one I'll ever hear if I have anything to say about it. | |
| The Cure – Bloodflowers Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| The constant struggle between the optimistic, loving, caring, gentle girl, and the hurt, scared, bitter boy who cant accept her love, and thus drives her away.... | |
| The Cure – Disintegration Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| I'd give just about anything to hear this one (and The Same Deep Water as You) played live.. | |
| The Cure – All Cats Are Grey Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| So unlike other cure songs... its like, 6 minutes long, with barely 40 seconds of vocals. Very sad. All I can think of is a man imprisoned, perhaps in a cave somewhere, lost forever. | |
| The Cure – The Caterpillar Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
Another of the cure's somewhat abstract lovesongs... I just like the imagery on this one. Flowing in And filling up my hopeless heart Oh never never go Dust my lemon lies With powder pink and sweet The day I stop Is the day you change And fly away from me She enters his life, makes him feel whole.. then something hapens and she flutters away. |

| Informatik – A Matter of Time Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
All the ways I could relate to this sing *laugh* One girl in particular I've often dreamed about going on a trip to find... But, in all seriousns, the song is pretty simple. Boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, girl leaves, boy is hurt, boy tries to find girl and win her back. Oh so tragic. Lifes a bitch, no? |

| Blutengel – Black Roses Lyrics | 22 years ago |

In the version I have, the subject of the song is female (IE: I was addicted to *her* smile). I wonder if there are two versions... |

| Covenant – Replicant Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
Definite allusions to BladeRunner. :) One of my favorite early Covenant songs. |
|
| Assemblage 23 – I Am The Rain Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
It is such a sorry sight When you evaluate your life You've only got yourself to blame I'm pretty sure that its supposed to be "It is such a sorry sight / when you evaluate your plight". |

| Front 242 – Circling Overland Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| i wouldnt go so far as to give it a 'meaning', but this song has some definite cyberpunk themes going on. Good stuff. | |
| VNV Nation – Beloved Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| diablousmagus: I dont disagree (in fact, I think youre probably 100% right), but I like putting a fanciful spin on things. Just my intepertation :) | |
| Eurythmics – Love Is A Stranger Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Thats gilt-edged, not guilt edged... but this is an awesome song. I love the way her voice sounds in this one. | |
| Ministry – Bad Blood Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Is this the same ministry as the guys who do Everyday is Halloween? Totally different sound. | |
| VNV Nation – Standing Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
Agreed... this song truly is inspirational. I have some sad memories associated with it... but ultimately, its a song of personal strength. If you listen to the Standing (Motion) remix, at about the 3:30 mark, when he starts singing "and fighting time, so hard I pray...", Ronan's voice is so impassioned... its awesome. And its just his voice on a very thin background that builds up. Not many singers in industrial can carry a song on the strength of their voice. |

| VNV Nation – Serial Killer Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I'm not sure I understand the Child of the flag reference. Its the only bit of the song I dont get. | |
| VNV Nation – Honour Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
Hmm. I got the exacty same vision in my head as RayTracer. Funny thing about the date... January 2012. Not that I'm hung up on the whole astrological thing, but according to the ancient mayan long-count calendar, the world will end and a new one emerge on December 21, 2011.... which, bizzarely enough (dont ask me how they calculated this, its wacky) is the exact date on which our planet and solar system pass through the galactic equator. Somehow they figugured out the exact period of the occilation of our solar system. Wacky stuff. Just a little useless info. |
|
| VNV Nation – Carbon Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
Hmm. Somehow I came across a voxless version of this song. I didnt know it had lyrics until I bought Futureperfect. Both versions are great. I also agree that the million points of light are a city. Hmm, for some strange reason I have a desire to go out and head down to fishermans wharf or something.. lol |

| VNV Nation – Holding On Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
Yup, it makes me cry too. The chorus... the second verse.. And one day I woke to find The future had no place for me I was unwanted in a world that with my hands I helped build Where once was honesty and pride I now stand broken and alone Just a shadow of what I was meant to be Gets me every time. So does airships, but on a different level. Funny thing is... I heard the song many times, but I didnt truly listen to it until I bought Futureperfect |
|
| VNV Nation – Airships Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I do agree with Electric Jungle... I think this song is way underrated. I think its beautiful. Not sure I get any religious references from it, but nonetheless its still beautiful.. I think it captures the whole 1920's vision of the future better than any other song on Futureperfect... and it paints a very pretty picture. | |
| VNV Nation – Darkangel Lyrics | 23 years ago |

diabolusmagus: Check out my comment over in the beloved page... I think you're right on with this one. |

| VNV Nation – Beloved Lyrics | 23 years ago |

I dont see why we cant look at this song literally. First of all, I agree that the lyrics probably refer to a lost love, a failed relationship, and so on... but just for fun, look at it this way. I see this song as the flipside of Darkangel. Yeah, its a kind of 'fantastic' way to look at things, but why not indulge in a flight of fancy? First off, if you take darkangel from a fantastic point of view, you have a song about an angel getting cast from heaven. Here in beloved, you have other angelic references, such as: We were once young and blessed with wings. No heights could keep us from their reach No sacred place we did not soar. My beloved do you know How many times I stared at clouds Thinking that I saw you there? I know its fanciful, but try looking at this song as being sung from the perspective of the "I" in darkangel. "I dont regret the choices that I made, I know you feel the same" "Grant me wings that I might fly. My restless soul is longing. No pain remains, no feeling. Eternity awaits." Perhaps he's lamenting his fall from grace? I just think it works out quite well. |

Ahh... the classics. Heh. Bela Lugosi's dead. |
|
| The Cure – Burn Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Hmmm. Honestly, I've never seen the crow. It just feels... wierd. I mean im sure its a good film, but.. I dunno. I think I'm better off not seeing it. I love the song though... especially the line "the end is all thats ever true".... I kept listening to that verse over and over. lol | |
| The Cure – Strange Attraction Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
You know, I really shouldnt have read that. I just went through basically the same thing. Of course, things were slightly different... but I can relate to this song a little to well for my own comfort. |
|
| The Cure – Apart Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
I really can't belive that no one has commented on this one yet. I think the meaning of this song is pretty apparent. Its a break-up song. However, I dont belive any other break up song has ever so eloquently laid bare the act of breaking up, or been so monumentally depressing. This is quite possibly the most depressing song I've ever heard. Between the woodwinds, the simple drums, and the haunted lyrics whispered a half second behind Robert Smiths' voice... it really brings you down. |
