Tomorrow, Wendy (Andy Prieboy cover) Lyrics
It is complete now
Two ends of time are neatly tied
A one-way street
She's walking to the end of the line
And there she meets
the faces she keeps
In her heart and mind
They say
"Goodbye"
Tomorrow Wendy you're going to die
Underneath the chilly grey November sky
We can make believe that Kennedy is still alive
We're shooting for the moon
And smiling Jackie's driving by
They say
"Good try"
Tomorrow Wendy is going to die
I told the priest
Don't count on any second coming
God got his ass kicked
The first time he came down here slumming
He had the balls to come
The gall to die
And then forgive us
No I don't wonder why,
I wonder what he thought it would get us
Hey hey
Goodbye
Tomorrow Wendy is going to cry
Only God says "jump"
So I say "in good time"
Cause if he ever saw it
It was through these eyes of mine
And if he ever suffered
it was me who did his crying
Hey hey
Goodbye
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die
Two ends of time are neatly tied
A one-way street
She's walking to the end of the line
And there she meets
the faces she keeps
In her heart and mind
"Goodbye"
Tomorrow Wendy you're going to die
We can make believe that Kennedy is still alive
We're shooting for the moon
And smiling Jackie's driving by
"Good try"
Tomorrow Wendy is going to die
Don't count on any second coming
God got his ass kicked
The first time he came down here slumming
He had the balls to come
The gall to die
And then forgive us
No I don't wonder why,
I wonder what he thought it would get us
Goodbye
Tomorrow Wendy is going to cry
So I say "in good time"
Cause if he ever saw it
It was through these eyes of mine
And if he ever suffered
it was me who did his crying
Goodbye
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die

"Andy Prieboy wrote that one, so I'll paraphrase him as to what I understand. Wendy was a real person. She was diagnosed with AIDS and rather than suffering the stigma, she decided to commit suicide. It's an old song, so this is a long time ago, and not that anything's changed much, by the way. But it's basically her dialogue with herself as to the decision she's going to make on her own. She's making the decision on her own, it's her one act of dignity in her life. And it's heavy, to say the least." - Johnette Napolitano

You know, you guys are in a music forum arguing over the song being about a prostitute with AIDS. That is who the song was written for, but it is music. that doesnt mean that it is the songs only meaning. Everyone looks at the world differently. Music relates to each of us in a different way. This song may have many meaning. I personally love the song and in my life experiences, I have buried two children and a husband, in three different years, before the age of thirty. I see the meaning everyone else sees, and the view points. When I first listened to this song though, I felt that to me it meant that we will all die,, and wendy was going to die regardless. We have no control over the fact that death is inevitable. It is not about athiesm in my opinion. It is a person stating a fact in a manner more bluntly than most have the balls to do. People need to state their interpretations about the music and how they feel but dont bash on someone elses interpretation. A musician shares their music so others can have it impact the lives of others. So it doesnt matter how it is seen as long as it touched people.
Thanks for saying that. I think it's odd how personally people take the comments of strangers on the internet, especially when you bring their god(s) into it.

@Fidgit80 , Well said; I couldn't agree more.

This isn't from the viewpoint of someone who doesn't believe in God. This is someone who is angry at God, and doesn't believe in some people's interpretations of God. How can you be angry at God if you're an atheist? It's the old question - how can God be benevolent and all powerful, and allow pain and suffering of innocents?
Was Wendy innocent? Maybe he's joking with God about the current state of the world, maybe? He is saying that God came the first time (or second through Jesus aside from the ark) to save a degenerate nation so why would he even bother again? Yep, Wendy is gonna die...

To me the "meaning" of the song is academic. This is by far one of the most beautiful song EVER. Her voice with the choir effect is haunting. Everytime I hear this I have to listen to it a few times just because I HAVE too hear it again..
i heard a live recording of this song where it was actually sung by andy prieboy. apparently it is about a girl named wendy who killed herself after she found out she had aids, apparently she was also a very close friend of andy and it was he who was angry at god. beautiful song none the less
um...it's about a woman dying of aids.
um... crass and poorly thought out. duh.

On a live version of this song, Johnette Napolitano says that this is a song about Wendy, a woman with AIDS. The song was written by Andy Prieboy of Wall of Voodoo. Great song.
In a live recording I have, Johnette Napolitano says that this is a song about an actual woman named Wendy, who has AIDS. The song was written by Andy Prieboy of Wall of Voodoo. I don't necessarily agree with the sentiment, but I think it's a beautiful song that shows the anger in such a sad situation. Gives me chills every time.
to me this song is about when Wendy finds out she has aids. she curses god and comes to terms with the fact that shes gonna die. no one can change it. so she just lives until she walked to the end of the one way street. another innocent life gone and god didnt seem to help.
This song has a VERY atheistic feel that I just love.
To me it is a person who is dying, reflecting on the good times, thinking about death, getting angry at god and then realizing that there was no god at all, she wasted her life believing in a fairy tale and now she is going to die.
"Only God says "jump" So I say "in good time" Cause if he ever saw it It was through these eyes of mine And if he ever suffered it was me who did his crying "
To me this is her saying that god is about as real as she makes it. That it only exists as an idea, only exists inside her head. Its her eyes who sees, it is her face that the tears fall down, not gods. She realized that god is nothing more than an expression of herself, a crutch that is pointless"
