Irresponsible Hate Anthem

I've never heard the song personally, but I will say that "Abortion" typically refers to rejection in general, whereas "Nigger" refers to an outcast in general.

I swear I saw _blast do another song, and that was pretty spot-on, but I don't think you're right in this case, sorry. Everyone's free to an opinion, all that shit, but here's mine ;)

"I am so all-american, I'll sell you suicide I am totalitarian, I've got abortions in my eyes"

I see this as more relating the two to each other than contrasting the viewpoints. Manson has often expressed disdain about the common perception America holds of itself as 'land of the free', I feel this might be hitting back against that. The media is used to control the public in an almost totalitarian fashion, except rather than one organisation controlling it (ie: government), it's many organisations working together.

"I hate the hater, I'd rape the raper I am not the animal who will not be himself"

This, for me, has always felt like lashing out at those who made him the man he was. He hates the people who hated him, he'd rape the person who raped him, etc.

"fuck it"

Purely anger.

"Hey victim, should I black your eyes again? Hey victim, you were the one who put the stick in my hand"

Lashing out at a society that plays victim to "offensive music". Sarcastically, he asks if he should hurt the "victim" some more, before stating plainly that it was society that fucked him over in the first place.

"I am the ism, my hate's a prism let's jut kill everyone and let your god sort them out fuck it"

-ism, as in communism, fascism, etc. America has always had some doctrine or another as it's enemy, and now it's him. Prism is meant as a flawless shape - his hatred is perfect and complete. The next line is self explanatory.

"Everybody's someone else's nigger/I know you are so am I I wasn't born with enough middle fingers/ I don't need to choose a side"

The nigger line has been over countless times, and middle fingers is self-explanatory, so I'll skip to the last line here.

Why would Manson have to chose a side, when he is "the enemy", the "nigger"?

"I better, better, better, better not say this better, better, better, better not tell"

Like blast said, sarcasm. America doesn't want to hear what he's saying, he better not, it might offend people... FUCK IT!

Many have mistaken this song as a "fuck everything" ballad. But the protagonist is a Christian mock-up.

The Christian proclaims;

"I hate the hater, I'd rape the raper."

This is no diffrent than proclaiming "I love." But Manson's mockery serves to expose the dark paradox - the Christian doesn't "love," he hates the hate. So how can one observe love as a rule and not hate? To love only love means to hate half of a duality, thus the idea is empty. It is an ignorant philosophy. It is much like purifying a stream of its impurities; you take its character away and you still have only served to also purify the impurities of water. Christinaity serves to due the same to society. The perfect Christians would hold nothing worldy of any value; they would be a shell of nature holding only the unnatural; thus mindless sheep without any real (worldy) character. Not to get Nietzsche on you, but this makes Christinaity a dangerous form nihilism.

AND the line is "I am the animal who will not be himself." IT IS NOT "I am NOT the animal who will not be himself." Again, someone has mistaken the context of the song. It's a mockery. A Christian is an animal who repels the carnal or the animalistic. That is another paradox. Do you know what something that tries not to be something is? An attempt at nothing. Again, Christianity as a nihilism rears.

The chorus is the true Manson. He serves as the enlightened one, constrasting against the verses in which he mocks an unenlightened one. He "doesn't have to choose a side." He knows that love/hate and good/evil is a supernatural concept and to choose a side is actually impossible. Change hate and love to repel and attract and you have natural counterparts. But to say that repelling is evil and attracting is good is impossible because attracting can mean repelling to another entity. It is in the eye of the beholder.

Antichrist Superstar is the largely autobiographical story of the worm who becomes a hateful, irresponsible, dirty dirty rockstar. An Antichrist Superstar, and the world embraces it. When I say story, I don't just mean it has a theme, I mean it's a god damn STORYYY. Insane, yes. But true, nonetheless.

Survey the booklet in the inside of the album, it says at the bottom that it was recorded live in 1997. The album came out in 96, which kind of is a slap-in-the-face hint at the fact that this is a story.

The story, then, starts sort of at the end. We get to see what this Antichrist Superstar is all about. Irresponsible hatred. This is, in my theory, meant to be like...one of the Antichrist Superstar's songs. It shows what he's about, and how people seem to adore the entire thing. Hence crowd shouting "We hate love, we love hate".

After this, the story BEGINS with the Beautiful People, sort of a look at the world around the worm.

The song starts out All my children say "we hate love, We love hate" repeated. And nigger is not used as a derogitory term for black people, I dont think manson ever uses it like that. It's used as slave. Slave as in I'm a slave to school, parents, my job, record label, etc. If he's your "fucking idol" then you should be so damn ignorant. God damn i hate ignorant people and hypocrites.

"Nigger" means outcast, manson's a smart guy, hes not going after black people. A lot of his stuff is in metaphors..I love his line about the hater and the raper, so awesome.

As I Christian, I am grieved at all the hatred that I have seen directed toward Marilyn Manson by many who claim to be Christians. When I consider such hypocrisy, it is no wonder that hostility toward Christians is increasing. But....

The Bible itself said that "the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables" (2 Timothy 4:3-4).

I believe that much of the hypocrisy taking place in the name of Christianity is simply a reflection of this prophecy coming to pass. But God is not to blame. And just because someone claims to be a Christian does not mean that they are.

That said, I want to make it clear that I have no hatred in my heart for Marilyn Manson or his fans, and I used to be one of his fans myself. However, out of concern, I do feel that it is important for people realize what he is REALLY all about.

Although many have tried to justify him by saying things like "it's all an act" or "your misunderstanding what he's all about", many have not considered much of what has been going on behind the scenes....

this is a song that points out the deformities of a socially fucked society...deformities that may very well be in your own society, but no one sees them

Don't read to much into the details here. This song includes a bunch of nonsense that was deliberately included just to piss off as many people as possible at one time. It's got something for everyone: Suicide! Abortion! Rape! The N word!

Manson was always acutely aware of his position as a rockstar and the kind of stupid public reactions that happen when people like the PMRC (which was still a big deal at the time, seeing as how it was headed up by the Vice President Gore's wife) take music too seriously. There were a lot of adults who really believed that teenagers were nothing more than lemmings who would follow a rockstar off a cliff without a second thought. Hence Manson whispers "I better not say this. Better not tell." Meaning I better not give my honest opinion because somebody might take it too seriously.

But on top of the nonsense, you have the Ayn Rand reference "sell you suicide" that Autoerratica pointed out and you also have a reference to the similar philosophies that Anton LaVey writes in the Satanic Bible: "I am the animal who will not be himself." The "Hey Victim" lines also reflect this same philosophy of supremacy of the ego and independence as the highest morality.

So overall you get this tongue-in-cheek criticism of people who are stupid enough to take rock music literally accompanied by a sort of self-doubt questioning if he's any better than they are "I am the idiot who will not be himself"

Oh, and for the record, the strategy worked. There was a lot of press coverage and parents protesting at shows and things like that. This song in particular was written on purpose to provoke that reaction.
