Melt Lyrics

You are the melting men
You are the situation
There is no time to breathe
And yet one single breath
Leads to an insatiable desire
Of suicide in sex
So many blazing orchids
Burning in your throat
Making you choke
Making you sigh
Sigh in tiny deaths
So, melt
My lover, melt
She said melt
My lover, melt
You are the melting men
And as you melt
You are beheaded
Handcuffed (in lace and blood and sperm)
Swimming in poison
Gasping in the fragrance
Sweat carves a screenplay
of discipline and devotion
So, melt
My lover, melt
She said melt
My lover, melt
Can you see?
See into the back of a long, black car
Pulling away from the funeral of flowers
With my hand between your legs
Melting

SEVERIN: "Both 'Melt!' and 'Slowdive' were risky choices as singles and we knew that, but it didn't really bother us, because we knew that 'Dreamhouse' was successful, not in sales terms but we were pleased with how it had gone." Source: NME 24/12/83

Love the song. danielle3773's explanation of the reference to masochism seems to be flawless. For me, the death mentioned (or "tiny deaths") is figurative of the sufferings related to death (e.g. asfixiation). It is like if they mixed up the physical events of a masochist sex with the imaginations and sensations relating to it. Brilliant. Although it is dark, it has a beautiful melody, impossible not to get caught.

My Interpretation

I'm surprised no one has commented on this song yet, It is my favourite Banshees song. It is also one the contender for the title of sexiest song ever...just hearing Siouxsie's voice on this gives me chills.

I'm not completley sure what this is about. A friend of mine is convinced it's about murdering a lover. Another thinks it's about AIDS (which isn't entirelky outside the realms of possibility).

Either way, I adore this song.

It is haunting and melodic. I'd love to see a video for this song.

Dominance and submission. Servrin is in reference to the main character in "Venus in Furs" by "Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (the gentlman from which the term "masochism" came).

auto-erotic asphyxiation?

I think it's basically comparing an orgasm/sexual experience to dying. Obviously there's some s&m overtones...

what a sexysexysexy song.

agree. Yet there is some sadness in it.

Well this is my thoughts on Melt! Its about premature ejaculation coming from the womans side, and how she feels its a selfish act.
