I feel safe
I feel warm
When you're here, can I do no wrong?
I am cured, when I'm by you're side
I'm alright, I'm alright

I'm safe when I am with you
And I feel warm if you want me to
I am cured, when I'm by your side
I'm alright

Careful where you stand, my love
Careful where you lay your head
It's true we're always there
Looking out for one another

I feel safe when I'm with you
And I feel warm when you want me to
I am cured when you're all alone
I'm alright

Careful where you stand, my love
Careful where you lay your head
It's true we're always there
Looking out for one another

So I'd like a quiet town, please
And yeah I'd like a quiet town

Oh now now
Oh oh now now now
And careful where you stand
And careful where you stand

I disagree somewhat. I think this song is about an equal loving relationship that just feels right. I believe it's equal and the love is returned because he says they're always looking out for eachother. The only part I can't really understand is why he says "So, I like a quiet time, please Yeah, I like a quiet time" Maybe he just wants a quiet time to reflect on this love and how it has the power to make him "feel cured". Overall I think this is a beautiful song...I can't believe more people haven't replied to it!

I agree with AgathaKavka. The song is about somebody who's desperately in love with somebody he can never have. JPlay, i think that the verse you don't understand means that he's fed up. He doesn't want to think or fight anymore and so he just needs some quiet time for himself. That's what I think...

This might sound strange but I agree with both AgathaKavka and Jplay. I think this song is about someone who is desperately in love with someone and although she really cares for him, she doesn't share the same feelings. She feels bad that there is nothing that she can do to help him: she can't make herself love him in return and he realizes this. He doesn't want to see her racked with guilt so "he'll feel better if she wants him to." But even if he can't BE with her, it still helps just to be with her. All he asks is that she be careful with how she treats him because she has the ability to make him feel really good or really depressed.

I always thought the "quiet time" line had one of two meanings. Either sometimes he needs to get away because having her around can sometimes be a painful reminder of what he doesn't have. Or maybe it's his way of saying I need to move on and leave you because the pain of being this close to you without the same feelings in return is just too much.

But either way, the two really do care for eachother, even if the feelings aren't the same, and they will always be looking out for one another.

I think that it may have to do with a friend who he is in love with. She is in another relationship and he is worried about her, and thinks she may end up hurt. He does so much for her, and she does alot for him, but he is not in a situation to tell her his concerns and of his love for her.

Yeah, but i might have these lyrics fitting how i want them to.

I agree with tsdude. I think the song is about a friend he is in love with and is trying to warn her of despair that is coming into her life. The lines, "Careful where you stand, my love. Careful where you lay your head. It's true we're always looking out for one another." makes me think that he's definitely trying to save her and warn her about something that may happen. Them being really good friends is where the equal partnerships comes to play in my mind.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
