Born Again Lyrics

Do you or don't you want this to be your song?
It doesn't take a rebel to sing along.
This art is weak
in its pretty frame
and I am a monkey with
a misspelled name
"I'll put down you disco
and take you heart away.
I'll put down you disco
and take your heart away"
I am born again

I'm someone else
I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid just like you
I'm someone else
I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid just like you

do you or don't you want to take this hit?
Does it make you feel like you're a part of "it."
"I'll put down you disco
and take you heart away.
I'll put down you disco
and take your heart away"
I am born again

I'm someone else
I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid just like you
I'm someone else
I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid just like you

the valley of the dolls is
the valley of the dead
the valley of the dolls is
the valley of the dead

(CHORUS)

I am born again

Interesting note:

"the valley of the dolls is the valley of the dead"

The Valley of the Dolls was a film in which Sharon Tate, one of Charles Manson's victims, played a lead role. I find that this information makes this line even more puzzling.

I'm someone else I'm someone new I'm so stupid just like you

I think that this means "I can change, I can be like you.but I would be lowering myself". thats obviously NOT the whole song....but Thats just what I think! ~Olivia~

I think he’s mocking the so-called rebels who think they’re “cool” etc.

“Do you or don't you want this to be your song? It doesn't take a rebel to sing along.” – It doesn’t make you a true rebel to “sing along”, to follow what everyone else does anyway. So by copying others, you’re not really a rebel.

”This art is weak in its pretty frame and I am a monkey with a misspelled name” – Popular stars are monkeys; their art/jobs are pathetic…

“I’m someone else, I'm someone new, I'm someone stupid just like you” – Again about copying, about following, thinking you’re different when you’re not.

“Do you or don't you want to take this hit? Does it make you feel like you're a part of "it."” Do you want to do drugs to be with the in crowd, just to be cool, to follow.

Not really sure, just some random thoughts. Love the song anyway. Just sounds good to listen to.

Valley of the Dolls was originally a book, I reckon it influenced him alot, esspecially for the mechanical animals album, I suggest some of you guys read it, 'tis good...

I agree with you, calender. Also, he seems to be critisizing himself in this song. "This art is weak in its pretty frame and I am a monkey with a misspelled name". It seems like one of the themes in Holy Wood is how he feels he has become part of the society he hates. But, it is obviously critisizing society as well... Or perhaps I am wrong.

its funny out of 100 views i bet i am 15 but enyways i dont know much about marilyn manson or what the fuck he is tryinbg to say in this or the majority of his songs but what he says is exactly what i felt when i started getting into the raver scene, i felt like i wanted to be in it and that i was out of place and then the music kinda drifted me away and when i noticed i was part of their mindless world but the funny thing is it didnt matter to me because it felt way way too good, and as fot the "hit" im guessing he could mean "E" and how you dont really know how good you can really feel untill you roll. well thats only my take on it he could be talking about killing people so i dont know this just fit my opinion and i hope you agree

Manson was quoted saying "I started to learn that everything that’s considered a sin is what makes you a human being. All the seven deadly sins are man’s true nature. To be greedy. To be hateful. To have lust. Of course, you have to control them."

the line The valley of the dolls is the valley of the dead...refers to the movie valley of the dolls which 3 women fall into the celebrity lifestyle "trap".

I believe the chrous is saying that, according to born again Christians, you will burn in hell unless you are 'born again'. That God has no problem with sending a sinner to hell. I believe Manson is saying that although you might think you're a better person now (the born again...), in the end they are the same as everyone else.

I don't believe in a god but I do believe in reincarnation for everything living in the universe, that life is an energy and cannot be created or destroyed. It is simply recycled in creating new life. Life, or spirits that haven't found a new body or refuse to take a new body are what we call ghosts. I see this song as him saying that he doesn't really care what he does in this life, because he knows he'll be born again.

to be a proper rebel is to do what u wanna do. not what people tell you to do or copy what others do. if you think your a rebel because you do what everyone else does, you're not because you r following rules

this song is about how people try to be different and out there, but they are just the same. it's about people trying to find their niche. they get caught up in it and taken advantage of (the valley of the "DOLLS").
