The Love Song Lyrics
The bullet:
"I've got a crush on a pretty pistol
should I tell her that I feel this way?
Father told us to be faithful
I've got a crush on a pretty pistol
should I tell her that I feel this way
I've got love songs in my head
that are killing us away"
The Father:
"do you love your
guns?" (yeah)
"god?"
(yeah)
"your government?"
"do you love your
guns?"
(yeah)
"god?"
(yeah)
"your government?"
(fuck yeah)
The bullet:
"She tells me I'm a pretty bullet
I'm gonna be a star someday
Mother says that we should look away
She tells me I'm a pretty bullet
an Imitation Christ
I've got love songs in my head
that are killing us away"
The Father:
"do you love your
guns?"
(yeah)
"god?"
(yeah)
"your government?"
(fuck yeah)

people are stupid
The Love Song it about the general state of mind in the United States.
"I got a crush on a pretty pistol Should I tell her that I feel this way? Father told us to be faithful"
This means that the american society is really into guns, but this causes a conflict with their positive behavior towards church and religion. While the father (religion) preaches to be faithful (peaceful and stuff) the american way of life preaches the usage of guns/weapons.
"I've got love songs in my head That are killing us away"
This line points out that the reason for tragedies such as the Columbine massacre are the "love songs" society has stuck in their mind. The love songs are a symbol for the governments way of praising the ownership of guns. One of these love songs is sung in the refrain:
"Do you love your guns, god and government?"
This is the typical image of the American Way Of Life. The government uses the ownership of weapons to make society elect them, though they know that the legality of owning guns is dangerous. The same is made with god/religion. The government acts as if they are god-given, making god and jesus kind of rock stars. They use god and guns to legitimate their leadership.
"She tells me I'm a pretty bullet I'm gunna be a star some day Mother says that we should look away She tells me I'm a pretty bullet An Imitation Christ"
The line is about children that are taught, that they will become famous or rock-stars (star/Imitation Christ) when they are grown-up. These expectations can never be realised. The verse can be related to tragedies like the Columbine massacre. The high expectations of the boys weren´t realised, but devastated by reality. This can be regarded as another reason for the shooting.
To conclude: "The Love Song" is a parody on the american state of mind: It is completely allowed to own guns, children are taught that they were better than the rest and everybody wonders why Columbine happened. The title "Love Song" points out how naive society is. Instead of realising that it´s their own fault, they are looking for a scapegoat. In the case of Columbine MM was this scapegoat, since it was much easier to blame him, than to accept the real reasons.
I'm not certain myself of the meaning, but according to the artist himself, the song is a statement in response to the Columbine tradgedy. His explanation was that the father is the hand, the mother the gun, and the son the bullet. Hence, destruction happens when any of the three parties behave improperly. It shows, then, that Columbine is not his fault, but rather the fault of the parents of the perpetrators, in that they could not discipline the children appropriately, but instead coaxed them on unknowingly.
Note: It has been found that the shooters in the Columbine incident weren't actually Manson fans to begin with. Go figure.
Marilyn Manson was not the only band blamed, Rammstein and Insane Clown Posse were also blamed. I like all three of these bands and if the people wana blame sombody they can blame the fucking preps of the world who bully kids around to the point were they do kill. Fuck i gess no one else sees it or they do and just dont care.Fucking System...........
This song, to me anyways, is about school shootings, or violence in general. Father, (Society or Media..) promotes gun use, and the bullet (children) act accordingly...
So, what I feel Manson is trying to say, that school shootings aren't the bullies fault, or the kids fault, or mansons fault. The only thing to blame is society.
I think this song shows how the media/or society has brainwashed the children.. making them long for "the Gun"... or.. "Fall in love"
Just a simple thought.
Many of these defintions are accurate, as Manson's songs have many meanings, but this is the one I choose the most:
Quote: Got a crush on a pretty pistolShould I tell her that I feel this way?The Father taught us to be faithful
From what I understand, the person has a sexual attraction to another person who is not his partner, but deeper analysis could indicate that the person is attracted to the superficiality of society, drawn in by it's oppulence.
Quote: Got a crush on a pretty pistolShould I tell her that feel this way?I got Love Songs in my head killing us away...
His emotional state is very depressed, and he wants so badly to succed and become famous but he knows he must be realistic, but cannot let go of the fame he wants, he keeps his feelings to himself, and is overwhelmed by emotion, leading to thoughts of suicide.
Quote: She tells me I'm a pretty bulletGonna be a star somedayMother says that we should look away
This now focuses on the superficiality of society - the media promises fame and wealth, the mother, who is wise, like most mothers' are, tells the person t take no notice, as she knows that the world is full of corruption and evil, etc, and wants to protect her child
Quote: She tells me I'm a pretty bulletAn imitation Christgot love songs in my head killing us away
The institution fills the persons head with hopes and dreams, but they can never be realised, since the hopes and dreams are forged from the lies the institution says, to attract the person. The feeling of being rejected by the promises that were broken, 'cos they were based on lies, give the element of suicde as a result of failure.
Quote: Do you love your guns? (yeah!)God? (yeah!)The government (**** yeah!)
Sarasm here - does he love the government he lives in - No (sacastic 'yeah') God? - No '' '' guns?- No '' ''
By using the word "prep" you're just further etching the line that seperates so many kids from one another. If the clothes you wear or the music you listen to defines who you are, you are one useless piece of shit. And by trying not to be a "prep" you're just conforming to what someone else considers to be "non-conformity." Just be yourself!!!
i agreewith Manson Maggot....i mean, those kids were Nazis and posuer-goths, but still. They did it because they were made fun of to the point of insanity, and couldn't really stand it anymore. Its far from Manson's fault(and i wasnt a fan when it happened, fact I was kinda scared of em lol haha). And Eminem was blamed too...I respect him as well, he stood up and tried to take a little of the blame off Marilyn.
preps do drive people different from them to the point of insanity. i'm surprised that this doesn't happen more often, i certainly know several preps i woulda liked to shoot in high school, haha. this song fucking rocks.
meh. i love this song cuz it reminds me of my former drummer who i practically fell in love with right before our band broke up. the christian reference reminds me of him too cuz he was christian, but wild at heart ;-) anyways. that's just my really stupid comment. thought i'd share.
