Last Hour of the Last Day of Work Lyrics

I can't help but think back to the,
the advice that I got from my dad
he said"...time goes by so fast in a blink of an eye
so never close your eyes..."
"... and I always wanted something, something more than 50 hours every week
and a paid vacation on the jersey shoreline"
And he said

So when ambition turns into competition
I'll never be the better man (2X)

I can't help but think back to the, to the time
he said "life goes right by"
And told me never think twice
"you can't second guess how to live your life"
All these years have been way too short
to be spent on some factory floor like me
I never went back again
I never looked back again
And he said

So when ambition turns into competition
I'll never be the better man (2X)

It's the last hour of the last day
don't fall so far behind now
you'll be another nameless face
he said

So when ambition turns into competition
I'll never be the better man (4X)

what a great great great song, big surprise from LTJ, usually their lyrics kindof tell a little story which is what i like about them this song is about how a kid's dad sits him down and tells him basically live while you can, you're gonna be working for pennies the rest of your life and it's about how people work their whole lives away and live their lives for someone else, and not themselves, not doing what they really want with their lives

I love the chorus...competition is so useless.

And told me never think twice "you can't second guess how to live your life"

That line is incredible. LTJ writes the guidelines for my life.

@Skad4life84 I know this is a 15 year old comment but it still stands the test of time

no matter how hard you work, when you quit, you're gone, you're done, nobody remembers you, or what you did, pretty much your 50 hours a week meant nothing to anybody, except you. everyone is competing to be the best, but you all end up in the same situation

this song makes me wonder why people work half their lives just to get a job to save for retirement to so they can get older and die.

my question is, what's the song title have to do with anything?

@hellhawk123 I guess the last hour of the last day of work, so when his dad retired - that's the moment when he gave the advice to his son and told him all this wisdom which the song is about. This song is brilliant! Working Class Hero! To fight against capitalist labour means to struggle for the emancipation of all of us.
