The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
I was born in ashes of molten hatred
Raised by demons in abodes of the end
The reaper's scythe I fall upon to light my path
Wrecked by mangled wounds of life
I have become become the resurrection of the evil one
'Yknow that I don't fucking care If I live or die
I need a bishop preaching fire to get away with my sins
I despise everything I see so I don't give a fuck if ya hate me
Ain't got respect for humanity
Never lived or wanted immortality
The reaper's shadow I fall upon to obscure my path
Every day I'm being battered up until I bleed
You motherfuckas just leave me be
Ya could never give me cure for the pain I feel inside
Led by the reaper I walk in the night
Show me the way to yer kingdom come
I believe in armageddon, I've been baptised in alcohol
I'm embodyment of antichrist
I'm living for my own demise

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

one of the best sound made by Children of Bodom
single version is better than the one in "follow the reaper"
this song just rocks
easily one of the best songs ever made, its fuckin awesome
one of the best Bodom songs i´ve heard.
COB really is fucking awesome but i still think that Sentenced (the old one) is the best metal-band ever
How can u justify the best metal band over the greats form the early 80's?? IRON MAIDEN!!! but then again THE best is easily METALLICA!!!
metallica suck...except for SOME old stuff...just my opinion
but this song is really cool and Children of Bodom kick ass
You people clearly haven't heard Hatebreeder :) Easily better than Hate Me.
Best song TO skate or party or fuck or do just about anything to. Rockin!!!
yeah metillica sucks balls, both metallica and iron maiden are overrated.... iron maiden is pretty damn good tho, but metallica??? fuck them
