Evangeline Lyrics
She came from Heaven well there's no point belaboring that
I've seen some trouble and I must admit that I'm in demand
I confront rejection with magnetic good intentions yet
hey Jack Get back in fact Don't do that
I act sharp
but feel uncertain
cuz next time
It could be curtains
Evangeline
Conspirator so fine
lend me your faith cuz mine is broken
Compared to mine
what is your crime Evangeline
Now just to be certain let's be sure to set the record straight
I could use an angel but I don't intend to split up the take
Never go for treason but I got reasons that don't warrant debate
My acts intact and in fact you're not all that
You act sure
but youre uncertain
cuz next time
It could be curtains
Evangeline
Conspirator so fine
lend me your faith cuz mine is broken
Compared to mine
what is your crime Evangeline
Well there's no use turning back
no use turning back
It's already much too late
When the house is burning
Evangeline
Conspirator so fine
lend me your faith cuz mine is broken
Compared to mine
what is your crime Evangeline
I've seen some trouble and I must admit that I'm in demand
I confront rejection with magnetic good intentions yet
hey Jack Get back in fact Don't do that

Evangeline is an 1847 epic poem by American writer Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; it also is the name of the poem’s heroine, who in Cajun Louisiana has taken on mythological status.
I think its about meeting a new "perfect" partner and not wanting to betray the trust of one who you are with even though things are getting "stale"
metaphors to use heaven= anywhere faith=love conspirator=partner treason=cheating
reasons that dont warrent debate= family or children
just my take... or Epiphany..... or is it a brain fart..
This song is a very clever play on words by the infamous Dr. Graffin and company. At its heart, it's a comparison of the experience of falling in love with a girl with that of falling in love with God, and finds both untrue.
First of all, this song can be taken as a jab against organized religion in general. "Evangeline" can, of course, describe an evangelist, one who preaches religion. The line "evangeline / conspirator so fine" seems to suggest this, and the next lines "compared to mine, what is your crime / evangeline" are a little of the bitterness that Greg feels about how atheists are seen in society. Atheists are seen as committing a "crime" by not believing in a God, and are seen as lawless, immoral people.
But, if one reads a little more into the song, a second meaning begins to come out-the tale of a relationship. The greatest evidence for this is that the word "evangeline" is not an actual word, although close to "evangelist". Instead, it is a name. Why would articulate Bad Religion choose a word that doesn't exist? To provide a clue to the second meaning of the song. Stereotyped's analysis of the metaphors involved fits this description perfectly and is more in-depth than I've ever looked.
i think he's saying he's falling in love with a very religious girl. BUT the problem is that he is an atheist and it isn't making sense to him. "she came from heaven but there's no point belaboring that" meaning like well she's an angel... but theres really no point in trying to support that i know it can't be true. and "lend me your faith cause mine is broke" of course he's an atheist which is i think what he meant by his faith being broken. obviously.
"i coudl use an angel but i don't intend to split up the take" - then he's saying lets get something straight; i need you, but i'm not ready to accept your beliefs for it. he's sayying he knows he's right, the science proves it, "my acts intact, and in fact your not all that".
i woudl also just like to add that hell bent is lame. ur not punk just because ur standing up for greg graffin all defensive like the guy was attacking his lyrics. obviously he was talking about the way the person typed out the lyrics, not the content of the lyrics. i guess ur one of these new liberal punks who want to be all noble by attacking everyone who isn't exactly like you, but if you wanna know what punk is about, maybe you should read a few other things from our dear Greg Graffin known as "the Punk Manifesto" and "The 10 Grade Anarchist (Punk Synopsis)" maybe then you can appreciate what Greg has done.
meanwhile that kid was in fact defending bad religion CUZ he thought the author who posted them in fact misinterpreted the speling
peace out. p.s. process of belief is the best bad religion album. new album out late 06/early 07!!!
First, and foremost, this song was written by Brett. Stop. Giving. Credit. To. The. Wrong. Person! Agh! It's VERY annoying. Just because someone's the vocalist doesn't mean they write the lyrics to every fucking song.
Secondly, this song reminds me of "Anesthesia," but only in the sense that is about a girl. In terms of poetic device, or metaphor, they aren't too similar. The name Evangeline is also seemingly ironic: it literally means, "god's little angel" (or perhaps could be alluding to the Longfellow poem, as strong and having such a faith in herself to continue to search for her love.) However, the song seems to imply that she (and the speaker) are in the midst of a faltering relationship and are losing "faith" in one another ( the word "faith" does not have to imply a "faith in god," you know.) It could also show how he has come to realize that she is not the perfect "angel" he once thought she was. Therefore, Brett is using religious undertones to highlight how, perfect, or truly illuminating "Evangeline" was.
And as for the line "next time, it could be curtains:" I think that is one of the most ingenious lines in the entire song. Look at it this way: they are most likely a young couple, right? When a couple such as that moves in with one another, they have to make decisions on certain aspects of their home--like, home decor, or drapes. This line, to me, seems to highlight something petty that the two of them were arguing about, and hence the deterioration of their relationship. It's seems sarcastic, in that respect.
Sorry for the long post... I just had to put that out there.
If i'm not mistaken, the phrase 'it could be curtains' means something is ending as in when a show at the theatre ends when the curtains are let down. At least that is how I've always thought of it. Great take on the song though!

Hello all! My name is Evangelos ( or called Euaggelos) so evangelos and evangeline its from words ev (eu) + angelos (aggelos) and means "the one who brings the good news". About the song i think its about how some fake salesman (evangelistes) sells god to people.
The weirdness of this song just came to me.
It was released in 2002. Two years later, the television show LOST was released. One of the main actresses on the show, Evangeline Lilly, played Kate Austin.
Now let's look at the similarities between this song and LOST.
1 " magnetic good intentions "-The main theme of the show is magnetism.
2-"hey Jack Get back in fact Don't do that"-Jack was Kate's love interest on the show, and she was always tellign him not to do things.
3-the chorus-"Evangeline Conspirator so fine lend me your faith cuz mine is broken Compared to mine what is your crime Evangeline"
Evangeline's character Kate, was a shady criminal always in disguise, using fake names, running from the law.
4-"You act sure but youre uncertain cuz next time It could be curtains"
This explain Kate's uncertainty exactly, usually leading the crew to near death experiences.
5-"Well there's no use turning back no use turning back It's already much too late When the house is burning"
Kate's original crime was setting her stepfather's house on fire while he slept inside!
Apparently, Bad Religion can see the future!
