Home Lyrics

I woke up this morning
Now I understand
What it means to give your life
To just one man
Afraid of feeling nothing
No bees or butterflies
My head is full of voices
And my house is full of lies

[chorus]
This is home, home
And this is home, home
This is home

I found your standing there
When I was seventeen
Now I'm thirty-two
And I can't remember what I'd seen in you
I made a promise
Said it everyday
Now I'm reading romance novels
And I'm dreaming of yesterday

Chorus

I'd like to see the Riviera
And slowdance underneath the stars
I'd like to watch the sun come up
In a stranger's arms

Chorus

I'm going crazy
A little at a time
And everything I wanted
Is now driving me away
I woke this morning
To the sound of beating hearts
Mine is full of questions
And it's tearing yours apart...

I was under the impression this song was written shortly after her boyfriend/partner/keyboardist for the smashing pumpkins died. I wonder if this song is about him.

One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite artists. Her best work, and Ordinary Morning is on helluva closer.

This song reminds describes exactly how I felt in the last part of my last relationship...I was with the guy from the time I was 14 until 21 - 6 years - and towards the end of it I just felt like I was not in love with him anymore, like there was no spark, like we were just best friends and I felt trapped and missing the excitement of sparks between two people in the beginning of a romantic relationship. This song is a beautiful and amazing work...I listened to it a lot this past year for obvious reasons.

Beautiful song!

Most definitely a song about the perplexities of marrying young. Sometimes, something "happens"--such as a betrayal of trust or some sort of an awakening or uncoupling. She is guilty, yet curious. "Afraid of feeling nothing, no bees or butterflies". Home is comfort and all she's known. Home is also her trap. "My heart is full of questions and it's tearing yours apart". Do you leave Home for the unknown or do you stay knowing all of it's imperfections and constraints?

I was married young, and divorced young... I am only 25 but this song touches me the way no other does. It's amazing!

Home seems to represent a feeling of comfort that she once found in a love. Now the love has dissipated but she still calls it home. She feels like she invested her entire life and being into a single person, and now that the relationship is deteriorating, she feels like she is. She yearns for the thrill or lust of a new romance. Her preferences have changed and she's questioning the relationship and can see how much it hurts her partner.
